Born on Monticello plantation, in the 4th ward of Tensas Parish, inherited from his father, the late Martin Guthrie, deceased has lived on that one place practically his entire life. In early manhood he was wedded to Miss Sallie Sedden, of Waterproof. To this union, one daughter, Jennie, now Mrs. W. C. Morris, of Louisville, Kentucky, and one son, Clyde Guthrie of tensas Parish were born. His good wife was taken from him in 1918. Several years later he married Miss Maude Noble of Jefferson County, Miss. who survives him. He is also survived by one brother, Mr. Pinkney D. Guthrie, of this parish, and one sister, Mrs. Annie Blanche, who makes her home with her daughter (Clyde)Mrs. McKinney, in Caddo Parish. Another sister, Mrs. Kate Johnson, died at St. Joseph, in 1920. Member of Wesley Chapel Methodist Church for three score years, Mr. Guthrie was buried from this church on Friday after- noon. The pastor, Rev. Mr. Hughes, paid a beautiful and deserving tribute to the life and character of deceased. The concourse of friends attending the funeral obsequies taxed the seating capacity of this sacred and historic edifice, , some 35 cars following in the funeral train. Beneath a mountain of beauti- ful flowers, watered by the tears of hosts of friends and loved ones, "Mr. Jeff" sleeps peacefully in the quiet little grave- yard at Wesley beside those of his family who have gone before him.
