All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Thelma Lee Hoover Hopkins Funeral services for Mrs. Thelma Lee Hoover Hopkins of Newellton were held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 15 at the First Baptist Church in Newellton with Reverend Fulton McGraw, Reverend Hugh Boswell and Father William Dennis officiating. Interment was in Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton Under the direction of Young's Funeral Home in Ferriday. Mrs. Hopkins was born on August 5, 1933 in Lake Providence, when she was six years old, her family moved to St. Joseph. She was along-time member of the First Baptist Church of Newellton. She retired after 39 years in the Tensas Parish School System as a Teacher, Administrator and Head Start Director. Mrs. Hopkins was a graduate of Joseph Moore Davidson High School in St. Joseph and of Northeast Louisiana University with a Master's degree in education and Reading Specialist degrees. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma Teacher's Society, Newellton Garden Club, and was a Fidelis Sunday Class Teacher. She is preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. David Avery Hoover. Mrs. Hopkins is survived by her husband of 49 years, Cecil W. Hopkins of Newellton; one daughter, Cecilia and husband Art Stevens of Newellton; two grandchildren, Crawford and Caroline Stevens; one sister, Sue Hoover Bennett of Baton Rouge; three brothers, Bill and Lois Hoover of Monroe, Dale and Jane Hoover, Sr. of Natchez, Mississippi, and Chester and Kathy Hoover also of Natchez, Mississippi; a sister-in-law Mernice Hopkins of Hattiesburg, Mississippi. Pallbearers were Gary Hoover, Shane Debnam, Scott Prick, Dale Hoover, Jr., Stephen Hoover, Vaughn Harrington, Edgar Dixey, III and Ken Burnette.
