All rights reserved. http://usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm http://usgwarchives.net/la/lafiles.htm ********************************************** Page 6-Wednesday, October 4. 2000 Willie May Spruill Matthews Lifelong St. Joseph resident, Willie May Spruill Matthews, passed from this life on September 15, 2000, Mrs. Matthews died at home in her sleep after several years of failing health. Visitation was held on Sunday night in the chapel at Comer Funeral Home in Ferriday, Louisiana. Funeral services were held at the St. Joseph First Baptist Church on Monday September 18, 2000. Dr. Ray Robbins, and Dr. Kelly Barnett, both longtime friends of the family, officiated at the church and graveside. Serving the family as pallbearers were Ernie Armstrong, Rick Foster, Vic Mahoney, Jr., Gus Francis, Perry Eppinette and Whit Jones. Mrs. Matthews is survived by her mother, Mrs. H. L. Spruill; her sister, Mrs. Carolyn McCougan and a nephew, Scott McGougan; three children, Mrs. Kimberley Long of Shreveport, Mrs. Colleen Calvitt and husband, Matt, of Newellton, and Mr. Christopher Matthews and wife, Dawn, of Vidalia; her grandchildren, Cliff, Cole, Keith, Nicholas, Tara, Brooke, Brian, Christopher and Anna, and a great Grandson, Shay. Mrs. Matthews was a member of the St. Joseph Garden Club, Alpha Omicorn Pi Sorority and was also a member of the First Baptist Church in St. Joseph. Though her health kept her homebound these past few years, she was also an avid reader and kept the Tensas Parish Library staff busy. She was also a former employee of the Office of Family Services in St. Joseph.
