McGill Our community was shocked on Sunday evening to learn of the death of Mr. Nathaniel D. McGill, which occured at 2:30 o'clock at his home on "Locust Land" plantation, on Lake Bruin. Mr. McGil had been ill but a short time with complication of stomach and kidney troubles, and though he received the closest medical attention from his brother-in-law, Dr. L.A. Murdock, and tenderest nursing from his venerable mother and three sisters, all of whom were with him in his illness, the ravages of disease could not be stayed and the end came at the hour mentioned. Mr. McGill was born to Mr. & Mrs. James M. McGill at "Sunny- side" plantation, the old McGill home, in this parish, on November 10th, 1864. His education was received at Howard College, at Marion Alabama. His entire life was spent in Tensas parish and he was ever closely identified with everything that has made for the up- building and material advancement of the parish. A number of years ago Mr. McGill, acquired the "Locust Land" plantation, one of the largest and finest places in the parish, where he made a comfortable home for his parents and sisters, and to whom he was ever a devoted and thoughtful son and brother. Mr. McGill was a good and useful citizen. To his friends, and he had many, he was true as steel. Of polished manner and affable address he was always a most welcome guest in every home. The sympathy of a host of friends is extended to the aged and grief- stricken mother and to other members of his family. He leaves to mourn his loss his aged mother and three sisters, Mrs. L.A. Murdock, and Miss Ollie McGill of St. Joseph and Mrs. McD. Watkins of Natchez The body was taken to Port Gibson, Miss. for interment on Monday, where rest the remains of his father and brother and other members of the Davenport family. Funeral services were conducted at the residence on "Locust Land" on Monday morning by the Rev. Mr. Fontaine of Waterproof. The body was accompanied to Port Gibson by Mrs. McD. Watkins and Miss Mary Bell Murdock, sister and niece re- spectively of the deceased, and several very close friends. Upon arrival at Port Gibson the funeral procceded directly to the cemetery followed by a large concourse of friends and relatives, many of the older people of that city, life-long friends of his parents, being present. The family desire us to extend sincere thanks to all friends who so kindly assisted and comforted them in their hour of aff- lication. They will long be remembered in deepest gratitude.
