Muir A large number of lifelong friends and relatives of Mr. Willie D. Muir laid him away at his birthplace on Thursday forenoon. Willie D. Muir was born July 5, 1886 to Mr. Douglas Muir and Mrs. Carrie Rollins Muir on Lucknow Plantation in the northern part of Tensas Parish. He spent most of the 52 years of his life near his first home, and with early friends and relatives. About eight years ago he left St. Joseph and went to Wilderness Plantation, owned by Mr. Burnett, near Meyersville, Miss., where he was employed as Plantation Manager. Late in July he developed heart trouble, and was immedia- tely taken to Kings Daughters Hospital in Greenville, Miss. On Tuesday, Sept. 13th, he passed away. Mr. & Mrs. C. V. Ratcliff, Mr. Clyde Ratcliff, Jr. and Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Wilkerson left at once for Greenville, to make necess- ary funeral arrangements. The remains were brought to Sunflower Plantation, the home of Mr. Douglas Ratcliff, by the Stovall Funeral Home of Greenville, arriving about half past ten on Thursday. A large gathering of friends and members of the family were present on the (Indian) mound on Sun- flower, where the body was brought to be laid away beside his parents. The mound was capped with an array of floral offerings of unusual beauty. Rev. M. D. Fulkerson, of the Union Church of Newellton, performed the simple ceremony. Pall bearers were Messrs. George Bland, E. R. McDonald, J. C. Wilkerson, Maurice deVries, Henry Lang and J. H. Netterville, all of Newellton, and all old friends and relatives of the family. Mr. Muir is survived by Mrs. Inez Gordon Muir and their son, Gordon Muir, aged 21, both of New Orleans; and three sisters, Mrs. A. M. Ratcliff of St. Joseph, Mrs. C. V. Ratcliff of Newellton, and Miss Bessie Muir of Baton Rouge, all of whom were present at the funeral with the exception of Miss Bessie Muir, who was unable to come. Cut off at 52, the passing of this son of prominent Tensas Parish families is mourned by many friends.
