E. Ryther, following long and painful illness, borne throughout with Christian fortitude, occurred at his home at St. Joseph on Tuesday, October 1, with funeral services conducted from Christ (Episcopal) Church by the rector, the Rev. J. Dean Maurer, interment taking place in Natchez cemetery, the following friends serving as pall-bearers:E. A. Sartain of Monroe, with Southern Bell Telephone Co., Dr. Joseph Whitaker, Santo Baragona, Philip Watson, Castor Causey, Newton Wilds, George Raworth and C. J. Tolar, while honorary pall-bearers included all members of the northern district of the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Co.(Pioneers of America, Ouachita Council); all members of the Men's Bible Class of the Union Sunday School and Rotary Club of St. Joseph, and all other friends of the deceased. Fellow-employees of the Southern Bell from Monroe attending the funeral obsequies filled three cars and one truck, all coming to show their love and respect for their companion gone to his eternal reward. They were: E. A. Sartain, H.S. Wasson, Mr. Koonce, J. W. Warren, Charlie Warley, Mrs. L. N. Oapes, Mrs. Taylor, A.M. McMillan and several others, whose names the Gazette could not get. Fellow worker visitors also included Mr. Chatham from Rayville, Mr. Schooler from Ferriday, Mrs. Ella Hunter from Ferriday. Other visitors called here by Mr. Ryther's death were: Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Taylor and Mrs. Cora Taylor from Union, Miss., and Miss Mary Alice Hankins from Natchez.
