Dr. Joseph R. Whitaker

     Graveside services for Dr. Joseph R. Whitaker, 88, of 
Newellton, were held October 27, 2003. Interment followed 
at Legion Memorial Cemetery in Newellton.

     Dr. Whitaker died October 25, 2003 at his residence.  He 
was born in Gauss and had lived in Newellton for 54 years.

     Dr. Whitaker served in the United States Army during the 
second World War.
 
     Surviving Dr. Whitaker are his wife, Avis Terral Whitaker of 
Newellton; three daughters, Lee Dell Briery and Bettie Robertson 
of Newellton and Susan Johnson of Ridgeland, Mississippi; eight 
grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
