F. Suthon, lawyer, Houma, La.. is second to none in the city. He is a native of the Creole state, born May 18, 1848, and during the war he attended a high school in North Carolina, although on account of this trouble between the North and South he did not finish his course. In 1867 he started for broader fields of learning and was sent to Scotland, where he attended the University of Edinburgh, from which he graduated with the degree of A. M. in 1869. He subsequently returned to America and accepted the position of professor of Greek and Latin in Bellvue high school, in Virginia, for one year. After this he returned to Louisiana and with his highly discip lined mind entered vigorously into the study of law. He attended one course of lectures at Tulane university, and in 1871 was admitted to the bar before the supreme court of Now Orleans. After this he began looking for a suitable place to locate, and finally, in 1875, settled permanently at Houma. His unquestionable talents as a lawyer soon won him an extensive practice, which has been increasing up to the present time, and he is classed among the leading lawyers of the state. Careful in preparing his cases, ability to present them in a concise but logical and forcible manner, a careful and accurate adviser and an earnest and conscientious advocate, his success at the bar has been achieved by improved opportunities, by untiring diligence, and by close study and correct judgment of men and motives. He is a republican in his political views, but does not aspire to political positions. Socially he is a member of the Knights of Pythias organization. His father was a native of England and came to America at an early age. His mother belonged to one of the old and honored families of Louisiana.
