The penciled date appeared to have been added at a later date.] ========================= March 2, 1880 The petition of Xavier Paul respectfully shows the petitioner's wife, Lydia Semple Paul, departed this life ___February 1876 leaving 2 children, Rosa Eva Paul and Albert Cage Paul, issue of the marriage with the petitioner. The two children are minors and have property in the parish. He prays to have an inventory taken and be appointed tutor and that an undertutor be appointed. ========================= March 2, 1880 Order to Gabriel Montegut, Notary Public, was ordered to take an inventory by Judge Henry C. Sidney. ========================= March 10, 1880 Inventory taken by Gabriel Montegut, Notary Public, appraisers Henry F. Belanger and Andrew Zeringer. The property was pointed out by Peter Berger. Oaths were administered to the two appraisers and to Peter Berger. Inventory of the property belonging to the minors in the Estate of Joseph Semple, an undivided 2/15. 1) Land, 8 arpents front on both sides of Bayou Terrebonne by depth of survey, bounded above by lands of Harry Cage and below by lands of Pitre Bros. $160. 2) Land, Sec. 13, Township 17 S, Range 18 East, a triangular tract of land above and adjoining said land, contains 27.59 acres $40. 3) Land, 3 or 4 arpents below Houma, 2 arpents from on the right descending bank of Bayou Terrebonne bounded above by the land of Joachim Bergeron and below by the land of John B. Winder, together with all buildings $200. In all $400. Nothing left to be inventoried, the inventory was closed. ========================== March 5, 1880 Xavier Paul was appointed tutor and Charles Tennant was appointed undertutor. The oaths were administered. ========================== January 24, 1883 A Family meeting was ordered by Judge F. S. Goode. The meeting is to be composed of Arthur W. Connely, John A. Hubbard, Joseph A. Gagne, Duncan S. Cage, and Herman Lowenstein. The petition of John R. Bisland, representing that he [petitioner] is the executor of the testament [will] of Mrs. Eliza D. Semple, deceased. He represents that Joseph Semple died testate making Mrs. Eliza D. Semple his testamentary executor. The executor [Mrs. Semple] died 4 January 1883. The petitioner is applying for the trust of both successions. Among the heirs are Albert C. Paul and Rosa Eva Paul, minor children of the late Xavier Paul and his deceased wife. The minors are orphans and they have no tutor. The petitioner requests that a family meeting be called and that a dative tutor be appointed. The minors have no relatives in the parish or within 30 miles of the courthouse, except Thomas Rockwood, who has interests opposed to them. John R. Bisland requests that he be appointed dative testamentary executor of the succession. ========================== January 11, 1883 In a Family meeting composed of Arthur W. Connely, John A Hubbard, Joseph A. Gagne, Duncan Cage and Herman Lowenstein, with Julien Labat and Bernard F. Bazet as witnesses, John R. Bisland was appointed dative tutor of the minor children. ========================== June 15, 1883 John R. Bisland's petition says the minors have a small estate, the revenues of which are evidently insufficient to provide them subsistence and an education. He requests permission to take from the capital a sufficient amount that will supply their wants and to insure them an education, and that a family meeting be called to hear the petition. ========================== 26 July 1883 A Family meeting composed of Felix Daspit, F. Bogardus, E. Picou, Oscar Daspit, and E. A. Hepler was convened. Aubin Bourg and Emile A. Leonval were witnesses. They authorized Jno. Bisland to take $250.00 out of the estate annually for each of the minors. ========================== 6 May 1886 John B. Bisland filed an account of the receipts for the emancipated minor Albert C. Paul. Jno. Bisland asks that a curator ad hoc be appointed. Tobias Gibson was appointed to that position.
