The mission was organized into a church on September 11, 1955. The Reverend Lawrence Thibodeaux served the church as pastor from the time of its beginning to the time of his death in August 1968. The original property for the church was purchased by the Home Mission Board of the Southern Baptist Convention. From its very small beginning, with a small congregation meeting in a dwelling house on Jerry Ann Avenue, the church has grown to one with a membership of 750 and buildings valued at #300,000.00. The first building was a little frame chapel built by the members. In 1959 the first permanent building, a two story educational building, was erected. In 1965, the present auditorium was erected and put into use. These buildings serve the congregation today. Reverend Calvin Hazelwood was named pastor of the church March 1, 1969. Recently Mr. Barry Daniel came to serve the church as Minister of Music- Youth.
