ZION SERVES CITY AREA (picture of church in paper) THE New Mount Zion Baptist Church, located on Goode St. was organized in 1882 by Reverend I.H. Stewart. Reverend F. D. Pollard was elected to serve as the first pastor. In 1908, the membership made plans to build a church. This ultra-modern church (for its time) was built under the administration of the Rev. C.S. Collins, one of the few early black doctors in Terrebonne Parish. The church so constructed that it has survived since 1908 until the present date without having any major repairs. It has stood many storms without being damaged. According to a local citizen, the Rev. Collins went to Boston and built another church which was a replica of New Zion. The present pastor of New Zion, Reverend I.H. Riley, has announced that in the next months, a New Mount Zion will be rebuilt.
