PETERS DATES TO LINCOLN'S DEATH (picture of church in paper) St. Peters Baptist Church was organized in 1865, the year that President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated. The church was built of cypress logs from the woods of Hope Farm, located between Montegut and Bourg. St. Peters was built away from the general population of its members. Gradually, the congregation moved from the farms to settle closer to the church. Today the street that runs near the church is called St. Peters Street. The present pastor of St. Peters Baptist Church is Rev. J.H. Thompson.
