September 29, 1963 was the actual founding date, with Rev. William Fleming designated as first pastor; after a decade he is still pastor. The church was dedicated by Archbishop Cody June 20, 1965, at two p.m., shortly before he left to be installed as Bishop of Chicago. Prior to the completion of the church, Masses were held in the Houma Junior High Gym. The first Mass was celebrated in the new church on April 25, 1965. There are approximately 650 families in the parish. It is interesting to note that Vandebilt Catholic High School is located in Maria Immacolata parish. So is the Sako Nursing Home, where Father Fleming offers Mass once a week.
