REGINA VAN BUREN

Army Pfc. Regina S. Van Buren has graduated from the petroleum supply 
specialist course at Fort Lee, Petersburg, VA.  She is the daughter of Roland 
D. and Betty A. Van Buren of Houma and is a 1993 graduate of Ellender Memorial 
High School.


RICARDO LEGLEU JR.

  Army Pfc. Ricardo J. Legleu Jr. has entered basic military training at Fort 
Jackson, Columbus S. C.  Legleu is a 1994 graduate of South Lafourche High 
School.  He is the son of Ricardo J. Legleu Sr. of Golden Meadow and Nancy M. 
O'Connor of Whitehouse, Texas.


COREY GUIDRY

  Sgt. Corey T. Guidry was promoted to the rank of sergeant Nov.  1.  Guidry is 
presently an instructor at the School of Infantry at Camp Pendleton, Calif.  
Guidry is a 1992 graduate of H. L. Bourgeois and joined the Marine Corps in 
July of 1992.  He is the son of Linda and Randy Sutton of Houma.


JARON ARIEUX

  Army National Guard Pvt.  Jaron A. Arieux has begun basic infantry training 
at Fort Benning, Columbus, GA.  The private is a 19996 graduate of Ellender 
High School.  He is the son of William A. Arieux of Houma. 


PHILLIP MALBROUGH

  Marine Pvt.  Phillip J. Malbrough recently completed basic training at Marine 
Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.  Malbrough, a 1996 graduate of Terrebonne High 
School, is the son of Ronald P. and Pauline B. Malbrough of Houma.


LYNN CHAMPAGNE

  Col.  Lynn Champagne was promoted to his present rank in the Marine Corps by 
Major General Mike DeLong during Oct.  1 ceremonies at United States Atlantic 
Command, Joint Training, Analysis and Simulation center, in Suffolk, VA.  With 
his promotion, Champagne assumes command of Marine Aircraft Group 11 in 
Miramar, Calif., later this year.  He is the son of Maxie Price Champagne of 
Houma and the late Lindbergh Champagne.  He is married and has three children.  
A graduate of South Terrebonne High School, he received a bachelor's degree 
from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD in 1974.  He then entered 
flight training in Pensacola, Fla., and was designated a Naval Aviator in 1976.  
He served in various capacities in Marine Corps aviation units from 1976 to 
1984. In 1982 graduated from Naval Fighter Weapons School, also known as "Top 
Gun."  Champagne was selected to the original cadre of personnel to start the 
F/A-18 program with the Marine Fighter Attack Squadron 531 in El Toro, Calif., 
and was chosen to start the Marine Corps Exchange Officer program to the Royal 
Australian Air Force in 1984.  He served as commanding officer of Marine 
Fighter Attack Squadron 323 in El Toro, Calif. and Squadron 235 in Kaneohe, 
Hawaii.  He received a master's degree in national security and strategic 
studies from the Naval War College in Newport, R.I. in 1994.  Also in 1994, he 
joined the United States Atlantic Command joint Training Division and assumed 
the duties of chief controller of the Joint Exercise Control Group.  
Champagne's personal award includes the meritorious Service Medal with star and 
the Joint Service Achievement Medal.


ENO ALLEMAND

  Marine Pvt.  Eno J. Allemand recently completed basic training at Marine 
Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.  A 1996 high school graduate, he is the son of 
Eno J. Allemand II of Cut Off.


SIMON HEBERT
  Marine PFC Simon P. Hebert recently completed basic training at Marine Corps 
Recruit Depot, San Diego.  The son of Timothy W. and Carla E. Neal of Houma, he 
is a 1996 graduate of Allen J. Ellender Memorial High School.

SOLDIER HELPS KEEP 'TRUCK STOP' RUNNING

  TERCEIRA, AZORES- If you ask a mad-weary trucker to list the things he's 
thankful for, chances are his favorite truck stop will be at the top of that 
list.  It's a convenient place he can stop for fuel, repairs or just a cup of 
coffee and a hot meal when he's on the road.  If you ask the same question of 
globe-hopping military pilots making the long trek from the United States to 
Europe, they'll probably mention a tiny volcano top in the middle of the 
Atlantic call Terceira.  It's a small island that's home to Lajes Field, where 
the son of a Houma couple makes sure travel-logged flyers can count on a "truck 
stop" of their own.  Air force Staff Sgt.  Robert C. Alford, son of Robert E. 
and Beverly A. Alford, is one of about 1,000 Air Force men and women living on 
Terceira Island, called the "Crossroads of the Atlantic" by those who work at 
Lajes.  The small Air Force base is essentially a floating truck stop, 
providing all sorts of military aircraft a handy place to stop for fuel and 
repairs while journeying to Europe, the Middle East and other parts of the 
world.  Lajes also services aircraft from other nations, including Belgium, 
Canada, Columbia, France, Germany, Great Britain and the Netherlands.  "We may 
be on a small island out in the middle of nowhere, but we've got an important 
mission," said Alford.  "We provide precise and professional operations support 
to U. S. and allied aircraft.  We're the primary refueling point between the 
U.S. and Europe."  Supporting the numerous aircraft and air crews takes quite a 
supporting cast, including fuels specialists, air traffic controllers, weather 
forecasters, aircraft mechanics and a host of others.  But the people who work 
on the airfield couldn't do their jobs effectively - and in some cases not at 
all - without the "behind the scenes" support that makes a typical military 
installation work.  From the doctors and lawyers to the fire fighters and 
police, everyone at Lajes comes together to keep the steady flow of aircraft 
moving in and out of the base.  Alford is an aircraft maintenance craftsman.  
"I have several duties here with lots of different responsibilities.  I'm a 
chief inspector for quality assurance, making sure everyone who works on the 
flight line performs their tasks safely and correctly.  I also prevent possible 
damage to multi-million dollar aircraft by making sure there are no foreign 
objects like trash and debris on the flight line.  If these objects are 
ingested by aircraft engines, they can cause lots of damage.  Finally, I 
maintain the technical orders.  I post updates and changes to ensure everyone 
has the most current technical orders to do their jobs properly..," Alford 
said.  As one of nine small islands that make up the Azores, a province 
Portugal, Terceira has only 250 miles of land surface, making the ocean visible 
from almost anywhere on the island.  Mountains covered with subtropical 
vegetation provide a picturesque backdrop for the small towns and villages, 
which date back more than 500 years.  Rows of quaint, shingle-roofed cottages 
line cobblestone streets, while farmers herd their cattle on endless pastures.  
Only the sometimes turbulent weather disturbs an otherwise tranquil, old 
fashioned way of life.  "The island is only about 11 x 18 miles wide and 
located 1,200 miles from Washington, D.C. and 850 miles from mainland Portugal.  
We get lots of rain and frequent winds that can and do exceed 100 mph," Alford 
said.  "The local population is very warm and friendly.   Life here is much 
simpler and slower than in the U.S.  - it's sort of like stepping back in 
time."  U.S. service members serve 15-month tours of duty at Lajes if they are 
unaccompanied, two years if they choose to bring their families.  For most, 
spending that much time on a tiny isolated island brings experiences that won't 
soon be forgotten.  It can also mean missing the "little things" often taken 
for granted in the states.  There's lot’s to see on the island, including 
volcanoes and caves.  Ocean recreation is abundant too, with plenty of fishing, 
swimming and scuba diving.  Plus, the food is excellent," Alford said.  "I 
enjoy living here, but after 11 months, I miss the duck and deer hunting I do 
back home.  I also miss Wal-Mart, Burger King and other small conveniences – 
the stuff other people in the states take for granted.  But exploring the 
island on my free time takes my mind off all that."  Pilots and other visitors 
may casually refer to Lajes as a big "gas station" on the Atlantic; but like 
the truckers who count on their truck stops, they're happy it's there.  For the 
trans-Atlantic crews, Alford and his fellow airmen at Lajes make sure the back 
door's open and the lights always on.


SOLDIER SERVING ABOARD USS TORTUGA

  ABOARD USS TORTUGA - For more than 220 years America's Navy has been for ward 
deployed, on call and ready to respond.  In peacetime, crisis, and conflict the 
Navy has answered the call on countless occasions in every region of the world.  
One sailor answering the call is Pashion Keller, daughter of Gregory and Bonita 
Keller of Houma.  She is currently serving aboard USS Tortuga, home -ported at 
the Naval Amphibious Base Little Creek, VA.  Keller joined the Navy in 1997.  
She said, "I joined so I could travel, meet new and exciting people, and for 
the job experience."   Keller and the crew of Tortuga are often the first to 
arrive in situations ranging from humanitarian relief efforts to combat 
operations.  A 19-year-old fireman apprentice, she serves in the engineering 
department.  "In the engine room, I operate and repair diesel generators, main 
propulsion machinery, main reduction gears and the auxiliary boilers," she 
said.  "I think the hardest aspect of my job is getting dirty.  Trust me when I 
say you will get dirty."  Tortuga has a critical mission in the Navy's mission.  
Designed specifically to operate and sustain air-landing craft, the dock-
landing ship has the largest capacity for these craft.  It can move tanks, 
vehicles, cargo and troops from ship to shore and is essential to combat 
operations.  By its presence on station, Tortuga can allow troops to move 
ashore and then seize control of port and air base facilities in preparation 
for follow-on invasion forces.  A 1996 graduate of Terrebonne High School, 
Keller said she is continuing to learn in the Navy.  "I've learned many 
important things such as positive thinking, how to set goals and go after 
them."  She continued, "I've learned to always keep my head high, and never 
allow people to get me down.   This is probably one of the hardest parts of my 
job.   "When my enlistment is up whether I decide to get out or stay in the 
Navy, I have learned many things that will assist me in the civilian world.  
Keller added the most important thing to her is her ability to work as a part 
of a team.  "The Navy is not for everybody, but if you think it's what you want,
 then go for it.  When I do leave the sea service, I hope to further my 
college education by using my GI Bill.  I want to be able to receive my degree 
in nursing, and maybe one day I will be able to open my own day care center."  
Whatever Keller's future holds, she can look back at her time in the Navy with 
fond memories and intense pride in her service to her country.

WILLIAM DOMANGUE

  Marine Cpl. William F. Domangue participated in a training exercise while on 
a six-month deployment to Okinawa with 2nd Battalion 6th Marines, home based at 
Camp Lejeune, N.C.  During the exercise the unit was tasked with securing an 
airfield and destroying a surface-to-air-missile site without aerial or forward 
reconnaissance.  This forced the unit to rely on their maps and land navigation 
skills.  The unit is part of the Unit Deployment Program.  These units based in 
the United States go to Okinawa for six months to train.  From Okinawa they can 
deploy to mainland Japan, Korea and many other Pacific countries.  Domangue is 
a 1994 graduate of H.L.Bourgeois High School.  He is the son of Mamie and 
Claude Domangue Sr. of Houma.  He joined the Marine Corps in May 1994.


ALBERT LEDET

  Marine Staff Sgt.  Albert J. Ledet has arrived in the Arabian Gulf with the 
24th Marine Expeditionary Unit, embarked aboard the ships of the USS Guam 
Amphibious Ready Group.  President Clinton ordered the ARG to the area in 
response to rising tensions there.  Ledet is one of more than 2,000 marines in 
the MEU who will be called on to participate in any contingency operations 
which may be ordered.  Tensions in the region have increased over Iraq's non-
compliance with U.N. sanctions imposed after the Gulf War in 1991.  Ledet's 
unit is an expeditionary intervention force with the ability to rapidly 
organize for combat operations in virtually any environment.  MEUs are composed 
of more than 2,000 personnel and are divided into an infantry battalion, an 
aircraft squadron, a support group and a command element, the unit supplies 
sustains itself for either quick mission accomplishment or clearing the way for 
follow-on forces.  Ledet is a 1981 graduate of South Terrebonne High School.  
He is the son of Albert J. and Bessie B. Ledet of Houma.  His wife Lillian is 
the daughter of Joseph Turner of Montegut.


DEVONE WILLIAMS

  Army Reserve Pvt.  Devone S. Williams has graduated from basic military 
training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.  Williams, a 1997 graduate of 
Central Lafourche High School, is the daughter of Dauphine Williams of Kansas 
City, Mo., and the granddaughter of Eunice Williams of Raceland.


BERNARD VERDIN

  Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Bernard A. Verdin is currently on a six-month 
deployment to the Arabian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS George 
Washington.  The ship set a Commander, Naval Air Force U.S. Atlantic Fleet 
record for an aircraft carrier by scoring 94 on a maintenance and material 
management inspection.  The carrier also received the Silver Anchor award for 
its exceptional command retention.  This is the fifth time in the last seven 
years the carrier has been formally recognized for retention efforts.  Verdin 
is a 1985 graduate of Terrebonne High School who joined the Navy in May 1985.


SHELDON MATTHEWS

  Army National Guard 2nd Lt., Sheldon C. Matthews has graduated from the 
transportation officer basic course at Fort Eustis, Newport News, Va.  The son 
of Dianne D. and stepson of LeRoy Maze of Gibson, he is a 1986 graduate of H.L. 
Bourgeois High School.


TERRY DEROCHE

  Navy Airman Terry DeRoche departed the Arabian Gulf with Strike Fighter 
Squadron 147, embarked aboard the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, 
the lead ship of the USS Nimitz Battle group, He is one of more than 5,000 
sailors and marines aboard the carrier who participated in Operation Southern 
Watch, enforcing the no-fly zone over southern Iraq as mandated by U.N. 
resolutions after the 1991 Gulf War.  The Secretary of Defense ordered the 
battle group to the area in October in response to rising tensions there.  The 
unit flies the F/A-18C Hornet, a twin-engine supersonic strike fighter which 
features an all-weather intercept, identify, destroy and ground attack 
capability.  DeRoche is a 1994 graduate of South Terrebonne High School who 
joined the Navy in June 1994.  He is the son of LeRoy J. and Bertha A. DeRoche 
of Bourg


TIMOTHY ROUEN

  Army Reserve Pvt.  Timothy W. Rouen has graduated from basic military 
training at Fort Sill, Lawton, Okla.  The son of Wayne J. and Bernice D. Rouen 
of Schrierver, the private is a 1997 graduate of H.L. Bourgeois High School.


PIERRE BROUSSARD

  Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Pierre A. Broussard departed the Persian Gulf 
aboard the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Nimitz, the lead ship of the 
USS Nimitz Battle group.  He is one of more than 5,000 sailors and marines 
aboard the carrier who participated in Operation Southern Watch, enforcing the

home ported in Bremerton, Washington, will shift its homeport to Norfolk, Va.,

Broussard, a graduate of H. L. Bourgeois High School, joined the Navy in 
February 1994.  He is the son of James E. and Gainell M. Broussard of Gibson.

DAVID AND LORETTA MERRITT

  Airman 1st Class David P. Merritt and Airman lst Class Loretta K. Merritt 
were promoted to their present ranks January 1998.  David Merritt, a graduate 
of H.L. Bourgeois High School, joined the Air Force in September 1996.  He is 
the son of Carl "Ed" and Sarah Merritt of Houma.  His wife, Loretta, is the 
daughter of Dwayne and Carole Birkholz of Orange, Iowa.  She joined the Air 
Force in January 1997.  The Merritt’s were married in June 1997 at Sheppard Air 
Force Base and are presently stationed at Edwards Air Force Base in California.


WILLIE TRIPLETT

  Marine Master Sgt.  Willie J. Triplett received the Marine Corps Good Conduct 
Medal.  The medal recognizes the service member/'s honest and faithful service 
during a three-year period.  To earn it, Triplett achieved and maintained a 
satisfactory level of performance and an unblemished conduct record for the 
period.  Triplett is currently assigned with Marine Wing Support Squadron 273, 
2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, Marine Corps Air Station, Beaufort, S.C.  A 1972 
graduate of Central Lafourche High School, Triplett joined the Corps in January 
1977.  He is the son of Elvie Triplett of Lockport.


HAROLD CLEVELAND JR. 

  Army Pvt.  Harold Cleveland Jr. has arrived for duty in Pirmasens, Germany.  
Cleveland is a unit supply specialist assigned to the 225th Medical Battalion.  
The private is a 1997 graduate of Central Lafourche High School.  He is the son 
of Harold Cleveland Sr. and of Sonyia M. Cleveland, both of Raceland.


PETE ADAMS

  Marine Pfc. Pete L. Adams graduated from the Unit Diary Clerk's Course at 
Personnel Administration School., Marine Corps Service Support Schools, Camp 
Lejeune, N. C., Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Combat 
Development Center, Quantico, Va.  Adams, a 1997 graduate of Central Lafourche 
High School, joined the Corps in July 1997.


SHAWN HEBERT

  Marine Pvt.  Shawn M. Hebert has completed basic training at Marine Corps 
Recruit Depot, San Diego.  Hebert is a 1997 graduate of Thibodaux High School.


BENJAMIN ADAMS

  Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Benjamin M. Adams has arrived at his new home 
port of Norfolk, Va., after a six-month, around-the-world deployment aboard the 
aircraft carrier USS Nimitz.  The carrier departed its old home port of 
Bremerton, Wash., Sept. 1 to deploy to the western Pacific Ocean and Arabian 
Gulf.  During the deployment, the ship participated in Operation Southern Watch 
in the Arabian Gulf, enforcing UN sanctions levied against Iraq after the Gulf 
War in 1991.  USS Nimitz will begin a 33- month reactor complex overhaul in 
Norfolk.  The son of Micheal P. and Eve V. Adams, the 1995 graduate of Central 
Lafourche High School joined the Navy in September 1995.


TOMMY SCHICKSNIDER

  Marine Sgt.  Tommy J. Schicksnider has returned to his home base of Camp 
Pendleton, Calif., after a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific and 
Indian Oceans and Arabian Gulf, with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 164, 
part of the 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit (MEU) embarked aboard the ships of 
the USS Peleliu Amphibious Ready Group (ARG)  During the deployment, the unit 
participated in Operation Southern Watch in the Arabian Gulf, enforcing UN 
Sanctions levied against Iraq after the Gulf War in 1991.  The MEU also 
participated in exercise Eager Mace, an amphibious, ground, air and naval 
training exercise with Kuwaiti armed forces demonstrating U.S. resolve and 
commitment to the region.  The crew visited several liberty ports including 
Australia, Bahrain, Guam, India, Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand and the United 
Arab Emirates.  While in these ports they participated in several community 
relations projects and enjoyed the diversity the cultures represented.  
Schicksnider's unit is an expeditionary intervention force with the ability to 
rapidly organize for combat operations in virtually any environment.  MEUs are 
composed of more than 2,000 personnel and are divided into an infantry 
battalion, an aircraft squadron, a support group and a command element.  With 
the combination of these teams, the unit supplies and sustains itself for 
either quick mission accomplishment or clearing the way for follow-on forces.  
Schicksnider, a 1990 graduate of South Lafourche High School joined the Marine 
Corps in June 1990.  He is the son of Thomas L. Schnicksnider of Lockport.


EVANS LEBLANC

  Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Evans J. LeBlanc has departed on a six month 
deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf aboard the dock landing 
ship USS Portland.  He is one of more than 600 marines and sailors who departed 
their home port of Little Creek, Va., as part of the USS Wasp Amphibious Ready 
Group.   Crew members prepared for the deployment by participating in a Special 
Operations Capable Exercise of the coasts of North Carolina and Puerto Rico 
designed to test their ability to respond to any contingency they may encounter 
during the deployment.  The ship supports amphibious operations using Landing 
Craft Air Cushions, conventional landing craft and helicopters to transport 
marines onto hostile shores.  Designed specifically to operate and sustain 
LCACs, the ship has the largest capacity for these landing craft (four) of any 
U. S. Navy amphibious ship.  LeBlanc, a 1994 graduate of Allen J. Ellender High 
School, joined the Navy in January 1995.  He is the son of Hope F. Barbo and 
Evans J. LeBlanc Sr., both of Houma.

they received training in squad maneuvers and defensive posturing.  The unit is 
an expeditionary intervention force with the ability to rapidly organize for 
combat operations in virtually any environment.  Ledet is a 1981 graduate of 
South Terrebonne High School.  He is the son of Albert J. and Bessie B. Ledet 
of Houma.  His wife Lillian is the daughter of Joseph Turner of Montegut.


LEE-ERIC PRICE

  Marine Pfc. Lee-Eric A. Price recently was promoted in his present rank while 
serving with Headquarters and Service Battalion, Marine Corps Combat 
Development Center, Quantico, Va.  Price was promoted based on sustained 
superior job performance and proficiency in his designated specialty.  A 1997 
graduate of H.L. Bourgeois High School, Price joined the Marine Corps in June 
1997.


CADETS PARTICIPATE IN COMPETITION

  170 Civil Air Patrol cadets from across the U.S. Participated in the annual 
National Cadet competition or the National Color Guard Competition at Maxwell 
Air Force Base, Montgomery, Ala.  The young men and women cadets from Ohio, 
Colorado, Florida, Louisiana, Maryland, Missouri, New Jersey and Nevada 
competed for physical fitness arenas in the cadet competition.  Cadet 
participating in the color guard competition had to successfully perform a 
series of drills while presenting and posting the flags of the United States, 
Civil Air Patrol, and the U. S. Air Force.  Houma cadets who participated are 
Brenner J. and Brian LeCompte, sons of Blaise M. and Cherie B. LeCompte; 
Michele C. Robichaux, daughter of Clyde X. and Teresa A. Robichaux, and Stephen 
N. and Jonathan D. Bergeron, sons of Penny A. Hansen.


RYAN BROUSSARD

  Army Reserve Pvt.  Ryan A Broussard has graduated from basic military 
training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.  The private is a 1997 graduate 
of South Terrebonne High School


RODNEY WILEY

  Army National Guard Pvt.  Rodney W. Wiley has graduated from basic military 
training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.  Wiley, is a 1997 graduate of 
Central Lafourche High School.  The private is the son of Thomas W. Wiley and 
pat A. Arnold of Lockport.

DARRELL TRAHAN

  Navy Seaman Recruit Darrell J. Trahan recently completed U. S. Navy basic 
training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.  Trahan is a 1997 
graduate of South Terrebonne High School.  He is the son of Darrel J. Trahan 
Sr. and Elizabeth A. Fuselier, both of Houma.


BLAKE BOURG

  Marine Pvt.  Blake A. Bourg recently completed basic training at Marine Corps 
Recruit Depot, San Diego.  Bourg is a 1997 graduate of H.L. Bourgeois High 
School.  He is the son of Chris A. Bourg of Schriever.


BERNARD VERDIN

  Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Bernard A. Verdin has completed a six month

ANTHONY SINGLETON

  Navy Airman Anthony A. Singleton has completed a six-month deployment to the 
Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf with Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 11, 
embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington.  The unit 
participated in Operation Southern Watch, playing a significant role in 
supporting the enforcement of U. N. sanctions levied against Iraq after the 
1991 Persian Gulf War.  The squadron also participated in Operation Bright 
Star, a multinational exercise designed to improve readiness and 
interoperability with coalition forces.  During the deployment Singleton had 
the opportunity to visit France, Israel and the United Arab Emirates, where 
service members from his unit participated in outreach projects within the host 
communities.  Home based in Jacksonville, Fla., Singleton's squadron flies the 
Navy's SH-60F Seahawk, a multipurpose helicopter capable of conducting search 
and rescue, anti-submarine warfare and reconnaissance.  Singleton, a 1995 
graduate of Central Lafourche High School, joined the Navy in May 1995.  He is 
the son of L.J Joseph and Inez Singleton of Raceland.


KRAIG CALLAIS

  Air Force Airman Kraig M. Callais has graduated from basic military training 
at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.  During the six weeks training 
he received special training in human relations.  Callais, a 1997 graduate of 
H. L. Bourgeois high School, is the son of Jolene M. and Tony J. Callais of

  Cecil E. Houser III has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of

tactical-wheeled vehicles during various field and convoy operations.  He spent 
more than 1,800 hours of classroom instruction and practical application 
learning how to drive designated courses on and off road and also conducted 
vehicle recoveries and inspections, simulated driving vehicles under blackout 
conditions and learned how to prepare operator, maintenance and accident forms.  
The private is the son of John M. Lacy of Thibodaux.

  Army Sgt.  Isaac J. Auzenne has graduated from the Army Basic Noncommissioned

ALBERT LEDET

  Marine Staff Sgt.  Albert J. Ledet recently completed a six-month deployment 
to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf with the 24th Maine Expeditionary 
Unit, embarked aboard the ships of the USS Guam Amphibious Ready Group.  While 
deployed, the ship participated in Operation Southern Watch, playing a 
significant role in supporting the enforcement of UN sanctions levied against 
Iraq after the 1991 Persian Gulf War and in exercise Bright Star, a 
multinational exercise designed to improve unit readiness and inter-operability 
with coalition forces.  Ledet's unit is an expeditionary intervention force 
with the ability to rapidly organize for combat operations I virtually any 
environment.  MEUs are composed of more than 2,000 personal and are divided 
into an infantry battalion, an aircraft squadron, a support group and a command 
element.  With the combination of these teams, the unit supplies and sustains 
itself for either quick mission accomplishment or clearing the way for follow-
on forces.  Ledet is a 1981 graduate of South Terrebonne High School.  He is 
the son of Albert J. and Bessie B. Ledet of Houma.  His wife, Lillian, is the 
daughter of Joseph Turner of Montegut.


RANDY MARTIN

  Army National Guard Pvt.  Randy J. Martin has graduated from the construction 
equipment repairer course at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.  The course 
trained the soldier in maintenance and repair of engineering equipment which 
included engines, power-trains, and electrical, hydraulic, steering and 
suspension systems.  The son of Victoria D. Martin of Houma and Rodney D. 
Martin of Lafayette, the private is a 1996 graduate of Terrebonne High School.


EVANS LEBLANC

  Navy Petty Officer 3rd class Evans J. LeBlanc is currently involved in a six-
month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea aboard the dock landing ship USS 
Portland.  The ship deported its homeport of Little Creek, Va.  In February as 
part of the USS Wasp Amphibious Ready Group, which also includes the amphibious 
assault ship and transport dock USS Trenton and elements of the 26th Marine 
Expeditionary Unit.  During the first half of the deployment, LeBlanc's ship 
participated in Dynamic Response, a multinational exercise off Bosnia-
Herzegovina.  LeBlanc is a 1994 graduate of Ellender Memorial High School and 
joined the Navy in January 1995.  He is the son of Hope F. Barbo and of Evans 
J. LeBlanc Sr., both of Houma.

CLARENCE HARRIS

  Navy Airman Clarence M. Harris recently departed on a six-month deployment on 
the Western Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and Arabian Gulf aboard the aircraft 
carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.  Harris is one of more than 5,000 Sailors and 
Marines aboard the ship which departed its home port of Everett, Wash., to lead 
the USS Abraham Lincoln Battle Group.  The battle group is comprised of ten 
tactical air squadrons, five surface combatants and two submarines.  Such 
carriers are forward deployed around the world t maintain a U.S. presence and 
provide rapid response in times of Crisis.  They serve as a highly visible 
deterrent to would-be aggressors and, if deterrence fails, offer the most 
versatile and powerful weapons available.  The airman is the son of Danny J. 
and Brenda A. Harris of Raceland.  A1997 graduate of Central Lafourche High 
School, he joined the Navy in June1997.

  Marine Pfc. Gilbert B. Dardar has been promoted to his present rank and

  Army Pvt. Donald J. Celestin Jr. has entered basic infantry training at Fort 
Benning, Columbus, Ga.  The son of Gale and L. and Donald J. Celestin of gray,

CLARENCE HARRIS

  Navy Airman Clarence M. Harris recently visited Hong Kong while on a six-
month deployment to the Western Pacific Ocean and Arabian Gulf aboard the 
aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln, home ported in Everett, Wash.  During the 
port visit, sailors and Marines from the ship participated in Project Handclasp 
providing humanitarian aid to adults and children residing in disaster relief 
organization, a school for the mentally handicapped and an international 
Christian school.  In addition to providing food, hygienic items, toys, books 
and paper to recipients, members of the ship cleaned, repaired and painted 
buildings.  Project Handclasp is an official Navy program established in 1962 
to promote mutual understanding, respect and goodwill through direct person-to-
person contact between American citizens and citizens of other lands. 
Educational and goodwill materials donated by various U.S. organizations are 
distributed to needy citizens in foreign countries.  Carriers like USS Abraham 
Lincoln are forward deployed around the world to maintain a U.S. presence and 
provide rapid response in times of crisis. They serve as a highly visible

Lifeline '98, the largest logistical exercise held at Fort Hood, near Killeen, 
Texas.  The participating soldiers are assigned to various units   at Fort 
Hood.  Rodriguez, a personnel clerk with the 53rd Quartermaster Company, is the 
daughter of Carolyn K. Lee of Livingston, La.  Her husband Toby is the son of 
Benny Rodriguez of Lafayette and Donna Rodriguez of Houma.

MARY MATTHEWS

   Navy Hospital-man Mary A. Matthews recently departed to participate in a 
multinational exercise in the Mediterranean and Baltic seas aboard the hospital 
ship USNS Comfort, home ported in Baltimore.  She is one of more than 700 
active duty and reserve naval personnel who will participate in Baltic 
Challenge '98 along with military personnel from 11European nations.  The 
three-week exercise is a combined joint effort conducted to improve cooperation 
among the United States and Baltic nations of Estoia, Latvia and Lithuania in 
peace support operations.  Hospital ships provide platforms for medical 
training during major exercises or serve as medical treatment facilities during 
real world operations.  Matthews, a 1994 graduate of H.L. Bourgeois High School 
joined the Navy in 1997.  She is the daughter of Donald E. Williams and of 
Annie P. Steward, both of Gibson.

High School and a 1996graduate of Auburn University, Auburn, Ala.    The ensign

MICAH LEON

  Micah Sl Leon graduated from MCRD, San Diego, California Marine Base Platoon 
2075 on Aug. 7.  Leon received an expert marksman rating in rifle shooting.  He 
is the son of Wilton and Marcie Leon of Houma.


WELLTON WALKER JR.

  Army Spec. Wellton Walker Jr. has participated in exercise Phantom Lifeline 
'98, the largest logistical exercise held at Fort Hook, near Killeen, Texas. 
The participating soldiers are assigned to various units at Fort Hood.  
Soldiers practiced loading equipment by rail or simulated air transport, then 
trucked the equipment to soldiers in the field.  In the field, soldiers set up 
operations to issue the equipment and supplies, and established maintenance and 
repair facilities for the equipment.    The exercise was played out in a 
territory with a "hostile force" which possessed nuclear, biological and 
chemical weapons capability, Chemical weapons and conventional attacks produced 
"casualties" which put to test the soldier's military training and technical 
skills during the exercise.    Walker is a heavy vehicle operator assigned to 
the 418th Transportation Company.  He is the son of Welton and Cora M. Walker 
of Gray.   His wife, Angela, is a resident of Harker Heights, Texas,


EVANS LEBLANC

  Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Evans J. LeBlanc recently completed a five-month 
deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf aboard the dock landing 
ship USS Portland.  The USS Portland departed its homeport of Little Creek, 
Va., in February as part of the USS Wasp Amphibious Ready Group.  During the 
deployment, the ship participated in several multinational exercises including 
Dynamic Response, Destined Glory and Determined Falcon.  LeBlanc also had the 
opportunity to visit Italy, Greece, Spain, Tunisia and Turkey.    LeBlanc, a 
1994 graduate of Allen J. Ellender High School and joined the Navy in January 
1995.  He is the son of Hope F. Barbo and Evans J. LeBlanc Sr., both of Houma.


CRAIG STUART JR.

  Amy Pvt.  Craig S. Stuart Jr. has entered basic military training at Fort 
Jackson, Columbia, S.C.  A 1998 graduate of Destrehan High School, he is the

KIRSTEN BROOKS

  Navy Seaman Kirsten J. Brooks recently reported for duty aboard the dock 
landing ship USS Rushmore, home ported in San Diego.  Brooks, the daughter of 
Cordeal S. Carvin of Thibodaux and a 1996 graduate of Thibodaux High School, 
joined the Navy in November 1997.


MARY MATTHEWS

  Navy Hospital-man Mary A. Matthews recently completed a multinational 
exercise in the Mediterranean and Baltic Sea aboard the hospital ship USNS 
Comfort, home ported in Baltimore, Md.  Matthews is one of more than 700 active 
duty and reserve naval personnel who participated in Baltic Challenge '98 along 
with military personnel from 11European nations.  The exercise marked the first 
time USNS Comfort has traveled to the European theater and played a role in 
multinational exercises, and was the first major operational activity the ship 
has participated in since the Haitian migrant rescue operations in 1995.  
During the exercise, members from the ship provided trauma training for 
military doctors and lawyers from Lithuania, Estonia and Latvia.  In addition, 
USNS Comfort personnel successfully removed a tumor from a Lithuanian boy and 
rescued a man from drowning in a Lithuanian waterway.  After the exercise the 
ship stopped in Visby, Sweden to participate in an international medical 
conference.  Medical personnel demonstrated the ship's ability in telemedicine, 
where the best medical minds in the world can be linked by satellite video to 
confer, diagnose, and provide treatment from USNS Comfort to other locations 
around the world.  Hospital ships like USNS Comfort provide platforms for 
medical training during major exercises or serve as medical treatment 
facilities during real world operations.  Medical training supported includes 
patient evacuation, communications procedures, helicopter operations, mass 
casualty, humanitarian operations, telemedicine and operating with non-
governmental and private volunteer organizations.  Matthews, the daughter of 
Donald E. Williams and Annie P. Stewart of Gibson, is a 1994 graduate of H. L. 
Bourgeois High School.

South Terrebonne High School.  Punch joined the navy in June1995.


HARVEY SHARP II

  Air National Guard Airman Harvey J. Sharp III has graduated from basic 
Military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.  The airman 
is the son of Shela J. and Harvey J. Sharp of Gray.  His wife Kellie is the 
daughter of Glken and Angie N. Pitre of Houma.  Sharp graduated from H.L. 
Bourgeois High School in 1993.


KURT GUIDRY

  Navy Ensign Kurt P. Guidry recently participated in a multinational exercise 
while on a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf 
aboard the destroyer USS Mitscher.  Guidry participated in Sharem 125, a seven-
day exercise held in the central Mediterranean Sea.  Sharem is a Chief of Naval 
Operations program established in 1969 to improve the quality of undersea 
warfare.  Operations were conducted to test and evaluate undersea warfare 
tactics, weapons, sensors and procedures.  The operation included 10 ships and 
30 aircraft from Canada, Great Britain, Greece, Italy, Spain and the U.S.  
Home-ported in Norfolk, Va., USS Mitscher is one of the most powerful warships 
ever put to sea.  The computer-based AEGIS weapons system is the heart of the 
ship's war fighting capability and centers around powerful radar that enables 
the crew to detect, track and fire on more than 100 targets at a time.  Guidry 
is a 1985 graduate of South Terrebonne High School who joined the Navy in 
December 1995.  He is a 1996 graduate of Auburn University, Auburn, Ala., with 
BCE degree.  He is the son of Kenneth P. Guidry of Houma.

  Navy Lt. Ryan P. Matherne recently reported for duty at Naval Medical Center, 
Portsmouth, Va.  The lieutenant is the son of Evelyn R. and Roy J. Matherne Jr. 
of Mathews.  He is a 1991 graduate of Central Lafourche High School.  Matherne 
is a 1995 graduate of the University of New Orleans with a bachelor's degree 
and a 1998 graduate of Louisiana State University School of medicine, New 
Orleans with a DDS degree.


SCOTT LOUVIERE

Marine Pfc. Scott C. Louviere recently completed the electrical equipment 
repair course, receiving training on operation, maintenance and repair of field 
power generating equipment.  Louviere, a 1997 graduate of South Terrebonne High 
School, joined the corps in September 1997.  He is the son of Millie P. Freeman 
of Chauvin and Curtis J. Louviere of Bourg.


CRYSTAL LIRETTE

  Navy Seaman Apprentice Crystal Lirette recently completed basic crypto logic 
technician administrative school.  Lirette, the daughter of Terry J. and Linda 
L. Boudreaux of Houma, is a1995 graduate of Ellender Memorial High School.  She 
joined the Navy in December 1997.


CHRISTIAN ORTEGO

  Navy Lt. Christian A. Ortego is involved in a five-month deployment aboard 
the guided missile frigate USS Doyle, home-ported in Mayport, Fla.  Ortego, a 
1990 graduate of Terrebonne High School joined the Navy in August of 1996.  He 
is a 1996 graduate of Louisiana State University A.& M. , Baton Rouge, with a 
bachelor's degree.  Ortego is the son of Emilie M. Daye and of US Air Force 
Master Sgt.  Jones R. Ortego, both of Houma.


DAVID BIHM

  Marine Sgt.  David S. Bihm recently re-enlisted for four years while serving 
with Combat Service Support Detachment 16, 1st Service Support Group, Marine 
Corps Air Station, Yuma, Arizona.  Bihm, a 1989 graduate of South Terrebonne 
High School of Bourg, joined the corps in July 1989.  He is the son of Patricia 
Dubois of Bourg and of Johnnie T. Bihm of Thibodaux.


KURT GUIDRY

WILLIAM SAVOIE

  Navy Fireman William Al Savoie recently participated in the decommissioning 
ceremony of the amphibious assault ship USS Guam, home-ported in Norfolk, Va.  
USS Guam began its career with the recovery of the Gemini XI astronauts in 
1965.  In the 33 years since, the USS Guam has participated in Operation Urgent 
Fury in Grenada, the Gulf War, tours off the coasts of Beruit and Liberia, and 
Operation Desert Thunder against Iraq, and final deployment to the Mediterranean 
Sea and Arabian Gulf ended in April.  Savoie, a 1996 graduate of 
Ellender Memorial high School, joined the Navy in June 1996.  He is the son of 
Elsie S. Guidry of Houma.


CLARENCE HARRIS

  Navy Airman Clarence M. Harris is currently involved in a six-month 
employment to the Western Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and Arabian Gulf aboard 
the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.  A 1997 graduate of Central Lafourche 
High School, Harris joined the Navy in June 1997.    He is the son of Danny J. 
and Brenda A. Harris of Raceland.

  Sid P. Banks has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of 
lieutenant colonel.  Banks is commander of the 9th Supply Squadron at Beale Air 
Force Base, Marysville, Calif.  The colonel is the son of Dorothy B. Pollard 
and Charles Banks Jr., both of Raceland.  His wife, Charlette, is the daughter 
of Frank B. Robinson of Moreno Valley, Calif., and Winnie P. Wolf of Baton 
Rouge.  He graduated in 1977 from Central LaFourche High School and received a 
bachelor's degree in 1981 from the University of Southwestern Louisiana. Banks 
earned a master's degree in 1987 from Webster University, St. Louis, Mo.


LAURA DILLARD

  Laura L Dillard has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of airman 
first class.  Dillard is a missile support team member assigned to the 741st 
Security Forces Squadron at Malmstrom Air Force Base, Great Falls, Mont.  The 
airman is the daughter of Chester and Mary J. Dillard of Houma.  She is a 1996 
graduate of Allen J. Ellender Memorial High School.


MARLIN BLANCHARD

  Army Pfc. Marlin J. Blanchard has entered basic military training at Fort 
Benning, Columbus, Ga.  During the training, the soldier will receive 
instruction in drill and ceremonies, map reading, tactics, military customs and 
courtesies, physical fitness and first aid.  Blanchard is the son of Angela C. 
and Kim A. Blanchard of Lockport.  He is a 1998 graduate of Central Lafourche 
High School.


WESTON HULL

  Navy Airman Apprentice Weston H. Hull completed U.S. Navy basic training at 
Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.  The son of Weston H. and Diane E. 
Hull of Thibodaux, he is a 1998 graduate of Thibodaux High School.


CLARENCE HARRIS

  Navy Airman Clarence M. Harris is currently involved in a six-month

Eke USS Lincoln are forward deployed around the world to maintain a U. S 
presence and provide rapid response in times of crisis. They serve as a highly 
visible deterrent to would-be aggressors and, if deterrence fails, offer the 
most versatile and powerful weapons available, including Tomahawk cruise 
missiles and tactical aircraft.  Harris a 1997 graduate of Central Lafourche 
High School and joined the Navy in June 1997. He is the son of Danny J. and 
Brenda Harris of Raceland.


AMY LEBOUEF

  Marine Cpl. Amy A. Lebouef received the Navy and Marine Corps Achievement 
Medal.  Lebouef was recognized for her outstanding achievement while serving as 
radio operator with Marine Wing Support Squadron 372, 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, 
Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif.  The corporal was singled out for the 
award because of her superb initiative and contribution in helping the command 
fulfill its mission.  With a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, Lebouef 
joins a select group of men and women who have demonstrated their outstanding 
ability to excel in serving on the Navy-Marine Corps team. Lebouef is a 1995 
graduate of West Warwick High School of Rhode Island who joined the corps in 
December 1995.  Her husband Nicholas is the son of Renilde Lebouef of Gray.

  Navy Seaman Recruit Calvin J. Chauvin completed U.S. Navy basic training at 
Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.  Chauvin joined the Navy in June 
1998.

CHRISTIAN ORTEGO

  Navy Lt. J. G. Christian A Ortego is currently involved in a five-month 
deployment off the coast of South America aboard the guided missile frigate USS 
Doyle in support of Unitas.  Ortego's ship is a combatant ship designed to 
protect amphibious expeditionary forces, underway replenishment groups and 
merchant convoys from undersea attack. In addition to torpedoes, frigates carry 
helicopters that have sonar and torpedo capabilities, expanding the ship's 
reach.  Ortego is a 1990 graduate of Terrebonne High School and is a 1995 
graduate of Louisiana State University A&M, Baton Rouge.  He is the son Of Air 
Force Master Sgt. Jones R. Ortego and Emilie M. Daye, both of Houma.

MELANIE TURNER

  Navy Seaman Melanie L Turner is forward deployed to Agana, Guam, aboard the 
submarine tender USS Frank Cable.  Turner is one of more than 1,300 men and 
women who make up the crew of USS Frank Cable, equipped with repair shops, 
material and technical capabilities to repair and modify attack submarines.  
The ship also provides logistic support, such as maintaining and issuing food 
to nuclear-powered submarines.  Turner, a 1997 high school graduate, joined the 
Navy in September 1997.  She is the daughter of Thomas J. Turner of Lockport.


JESSE LEE

  Navy Airman Jesse M. Lee participated in the Atlantic Joint Task Force 
Exercise while assigned to the air-craft carrier USS Enterprise, home-ported in 
Norfolk, Va.  Lee was one of more than 10,000 sailors, Marines and airmen who 
participated in the U.S. Navy Second Fleet Exercise off the coast of the 
southeastern United States.  The exercise involved the USS Enterprise Battle 
Group and USS Nassau Amphibious Ready Group with the 24th Marine Expeditionary 
Unit embarked.  The ship recently earned honorable mention for the 1999 Captain 
Edward F. Ney Memorial Award for food service excellence in the aircraft 
carrier division. The dining facility on the ship demonstrated a commitment to 
culinary excellence, including nutritional programs and top operating 
conditions.  Lee, a 1995 graduate of Terrebonne High School, joined the Navy in 
June 1995. He is the son of Bart G. and Esther L Lee of Houma His wife Mary is 
the daughter of Freddie P. and Barbra Bergeron of Theriot.

  Navy Lt. Kurt P. Guidry was promoted to his present rank while serving aboard 
the guided missile destroyer USS Mitscher, home-ported in Norfolk, Va.  Guidry 
was promoted based on sustained superior job performance and proficiency in his 
designated specialty.  The 1985 graduate of South Terrebonne High School joined 
the Navy in December 1995. Guidry graduated from Auburn University in 1996 with 
a BCE degree. He is the son of Kenneth P. Guidry of Houma.

  Navy Seaman Recruit Bridget K. Celestin completed U.S. Navy basic training at

  Air Force Airman Veronica I. Richardson has, graduated from basic military

JEREMY DUMOND

  Navy Seaman Recruit Jeremy P. Dumond completed U. S. Navy basic training at 
Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.  A 1998 graduate of South Lafourche 
High School, he is the son of Wilvin A. and Stephanie A. Dumond of Larose.


CORREE ESCHETE

  After attending BNCOC in San Antonio, Texas, Corree Eschete was promoted to 
staff sergeant in the U.S. Army.   She is stationed in Fort Drum, New York and 
is a medic currently assisting in the Readiness Clinic in deployment of 4-31 
infantry soldiers.


SHANNON LEDET

  Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Shannon A. Ledet was promoted to her present 
rank and reported for duty at Naval Technical Training Center Corry Station, 
Pensacola, Fla.  Ledet, a 1995 graduate of H.L. Bourgeois High School, joined 
the Navy in July 1995. She is the daughter of Phyllis and Larry J. Aucoin Sr. 
of Gibson.

  Douglas J. Phillips III has joined the United States Army under the Delayed 
Entry Program at the U.S. Army Recruiting Station, Houma. The program gives 
young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one 
year. After completion of basic training, soldiers receive advanced individual 
training in their career specialty.  Phillips was scheduled to report to Fort 
Sill, Lawton, Okla., for basic training in November.  He is the son of Sandra 
I. and Douglas J. Phillips of Houma.


MIRABELLE KING

  Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Mirabelle M. King recently was promoted to her 
present rank while serving at Naval Medical Center, San Diego. King was 
promoted based on sustained superior job performance and proficiency in her

  Army M Danella N. Jacobs has graduated from basic military training at Fort 
Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.  During the training, the trainee received 
instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military 
courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and 
traditions.  Jacobs is the daughter of Jimmy Jacobs of Gray and Kathy J. Jacobs 
of Morgan City.  She is a 1998 graduate of Morgan City High School.


JARROD JOHNSON

  Army Pvt.  Jarrod Johnson has graduated from basic military training at Fort 
Sill, Lawton, Okla.  During the training, the trainee received instruction in

Johnson is the son of Maxine and James Johnson of Thibodaux.  He is a 1993

CRAIG WALLING

  Craig A. Walling has been promoted in the U.S. Army to the rank of colonel.  
Walling is a commander assigned to the U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion at New 
Orleans.  He is the son of Gerard E. and Gertrude Walling of Houma.  The 
colonel graduated in 1972 from Terrebonne High School and received a bachelor's 
degree in 1976 from Nicholls State University. He earned a master's degree in 
1988 from Long Island University, Greenville, N.Y.

  Army Staff Sgt. Daina M. Lewis has arrived for duty at the U. S. Army 
recruiting Station, Hollywood, Calif.  Lewis, a recruiter, is a 1980 graduate 
of South Terrebonne High School.

  Air Force Airman Derinda L Coleman has graduated from basic military training 
at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.  The airman, a 1997 high school

MELVIN FOLSE JR

  Army Warrant Officer Melvin P. Folse Jr. has arrived for duty at Fort Hood, 
Killeen, Texas.  Folse is a criminal investigations division special agent 
assigned to the 38th Military Police.  He is the grandson of Noonie Smith of 
Golden Meadow.


BERNIE BONVILLAIN JR.

  Army National Guard Pvt. Bernie P. Bonvillain Jr. has arrived at the U.S. 
Army Infantry School, Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., to begin One Station Unit 
Training.  The training combines basic military training and advanced 
individual training.  During basic training, the trainee will receive 
instruction in drill and ceremonies, map reading, tactics, military customs and 
courtesies, physical fitness and first aid.  The recruit will develop combat 
skills and handle various weapons available to the infantry soldier.  During 
AIT, the soldier will receive instruction to qualify as a light-weapons 
infantryman or an indirect-fire crewman assigned to a rifle or mortar squad. 
Instruction will include weapons qualifications, tactics, patrolling, field 
communications, combat operations, and survival during a nuclear, biological, 
or chemical attack.  Bonvillain is the son of Bernie P. Bonvillain of Devine, 
Texas, and Connie R. Madere of Raceland, La.  He is a 1998 graduate of Central 
Lafourche High School.

CLARENCE HARRIS

  Navy Airman Clarence M. Harris completed a six-month deployment to the 
Western Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and Arabian Gulf aboard the aircraft 
carrier USS Abraham Lincoln.  Harris was one of more than 5,000 sailors and 
Marines aboard the ship which returned to its homeport of Everett, Wash., after 
leading the USS Abraham Lincoln Battle Group, comprised of 10 tactical air 
squadrons, five surface combatants and two sub-marines.  While deployed in the 
Arabian Gulf, Harris' ship aided multinational interception operations in 
prohibiting contraband transports to and from Iraq. In addition, planes from 
the embarked air wing flew 1,855 missions during Operation Southern Watch to 
support sanctions imposed by the U.N. against Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War.  
During the deployment, Harris and crew members had the opportunity to visit 
Hong Kong, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates. While in Hong Kong, crew 
members participated in Project Handclasp providing humanitarian aid to 
disaster relief organizations, a school for the mentally handicapped and an 
international Christian school. In addition to providing food, hygienic items, 
toys, books and paper to the recipients, members of Harris' ship cleaned and 
repaired and painted buildings.  Harris is a 1997 graduate of Central Lafourche 
High School. He joined the Navy in June 1997. He is the son of Danny J. and 
Brenda A Harris of Raceland.


BRADLEY JOHNSON

  Marine Cpl. Bradley M. Johnson recently completed the Marine Corps' Range 
Coach 
course and received a Certificate of Commendation. Johnson, a 1995 graduate of 
Thibodaux High School, joined the Marine Corps in May 1996. He is the son of 
Merrick M. and Alison P. Johnson of Thibodaux.


JAMIE BOUDREAUX

  Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jamie J. Boudreaux recently reported for duty 
aboard the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis, home-ported in San Diego.  
Boudreaux is a 1994 graduate of Terrebonne High School who joined the Navy in 
September1996.  He is the son of Russ A Boudreaux of Houma and Helene B. 
Eschete of Montegut.  His wife Kimberly is the daughter of Linda Dill of Houma.


JESSE LEE

   Navy Airman Jesse M. Lee recently participated in Operation Desert Fox while 
assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, currently deployed to the 
Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf.   During the operation, U.S. forces 
launched attacks on military installations in Iraq after Iraqi President Saddam 
Hussein's refusal to allow U.N. teams to inspect Iraqi installations for 
weapons of mass destruction. President Husse inconstantly denied inspectors 
access to facilities which could house or manufacture such weapons in Iraq.   
The USS Enterprise, home-ported in Norfolk, Va., is forward deployed around the 
world to maintain a U.S. presence and provide rapid response in time of crisis. 
They serve as a visible deterrent to would be aggressors and, if deterrence 
fails, offer the most versatile and powerful weapons available, including 
Tomahawk cruise missiles and tactical aircraft.   Lee, a 1995 graduate of 
Terrebonne High School, joined the Navy in June1995. He is the son of Bart G. 
and Esther L Lee of Houma. His wife Mary is the daughter of Freddie P. and 
Barbara Bergeron of Theriot.


GREG VIZIER

   Marine Cpl. Greg M. Vizier has completed the Marine Corps' Marksmanship 
Instructor/Range Coach Course with Weapons Training Battalion, Edson Range 
Area, Camp Pendleton, Calif.   Vizier was awarded a Meritorious Mast by his 
commanding officer as official recognition for superior individual performance.  
The award was issued in the form of a bulletin published throughout the command 
and a copy was entered in Vizier's permanent service records.   Vizier is a 
1993 graduate of South Lafourche High School. He joined the Marine Corps in 
August 1993. He is the son of Rusty J. and Maudrey G. Vizier of Cut Off.


RICHARD BLOOMER

   Navy Seaman Recruit Richard E. Bloomer has completed U.S. Navy basic 
training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.  Bloomer is a 1998 
graduate of South Terrebonne High School of Bourg.  He is the son of Katherine 
and Richard E. Bloomer Sr. of Montegut.


LANCE FOUSSELL

  Lance J. Foussell has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry 
Program. A 1996 graduate of South Terrebonne High School, Foussell was 
scheduled to report to Fort Knox, Ky. for basic training Dec. 30. He is the son 
of Larry J. and Linda P. Foussell of Montegut.


MICHAEL COCHRAN

  Marine Pvt. Michael J. Cochran completed basic training at Marine Corps 
Recruit Depot San Diego. He is a 1998 graduate of Thibodaux High School.


DWIGHT LECOMPTE

   Marine Pfc. Dwight M. Lecompte has completed basic training at Marine Corps 
Recruit Depot, San Diego.  Lecompte is a 1998 graduate of Central Lafourche 
High School.  He is the son of Jerry A. and Pammela A. LeCompte of Lockport.


ADAM PAPA

   Navy Seaman Adam M. Papa completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit 
Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill.   Papa joined the Navy in August 1998.  He 
is the son of Kerry P. and Gloria B. Papa of Thibodaux.


JARED UHLICH

   Navy Fireman Apprentice Jared K. Uhlich has completed U.Sl Navy basic 
training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, ILL.  The 1998 graduate of 
Central Lafourche High School joined the Navy in October 1997.  He is the son 
of Ray M. and Avelyn K. Uhlich of Lockport.

SELINA BERGERON

   Air Force Airman Selina M. Bergeron has graduated from basic military 
training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.  The airman is the 
daughter of Jean M. Bergeron and Alex J. Bergeron, both of Houma.    She is a 
1998 graduate of H. L Bourgeois High School.


RHONDA MARCEL

   Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Rhonda Marcel recently participated in the 
Atlantic Joint Task Force Exercise while assigned to the supply ship USS 
Arctic, home-ported in Earl, NJ.   Marcel was one of more than 24,000 joint 
U.S. and allied military personnel who participated in the U.S. Navy exercise 
off the coast of the south-eastern United States.  The exercise involved the 
USS Meodore Roosevelt Battle Group and the USS Kearsuge Amphibious Ready Group 
with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit embarked.   Both groups are scheduled to 
deploy to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf this spring.   The exercise 
focused on preparing naval forces for contingencies they may encounter during 
the six month deployment. During the 18-day major training exercise sailors and 
marines from the ship received training in operations.   Marcel, a 1995 
graduate of Terrebonne High School in Houma joined in June 1995.


PATRICK NEIGEL

   Marine Cpl. Patrick L. Neigel recently completed cold weather training in a 
variety of areas, from cold weather war fare tactics to survival skills, 
including cross-country skiing and snow shoeing, patrolling and defending 
carnp, conducting a mountain assault, setting traps and snares for food, 
building snow caves, making signal fires and basic skills essential for 
survival in cold harsh climates.   Neigel is currently assigned with 3rd 
Battalion, 2nd Marines, 2nd Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, 
N.C. The son of Sandy L Ostheirnerof Houma, he is a 1995 graduate of H.L. 
Bourgeois High School.


WILLIAM SAVOIE

   Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class William A. Savoie was recently promoted to his 
present rank while serving aboard the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, 
home-ported in Norfolk, Va.  Savoie was promoted based on sustained superior 
job performance and proficiency in his designated specialty.   A 1996 graduate 
of Ellender High School, Savoie joined the Navy in June of 1996. His wife Nancy 
is the daughter of Keith and Diana Cortez of Houma.


COREY HUTCHINSON

   Marine Pvt. Corey A. Hutchinson of Montegut recently completed basic 
training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.  The son of Rhonda V. 
Hutchinson of Montegut, he is a 1998 graduate of South Terrebonne High School.


JODY MANDEVILLE

   Navy Ensign Jody W. Mandeville recently received his commission as a naval 
officer after completing Officer Candidate School at Naval Aviation Schools 
Command, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla.   During the 13-week-long training 
program, Mandeville received instruction on a variety of specialized subjects 
including navigation, ship handling, engineering, naval warfare and management 
and completed a demanding daily physical fitness program.  Mandeville, a 1992 
graduate of South Terrebonne High School, joined the Navy in January 1992. He 
is the son of George W. Mandeville of Houma.


SAMUEL BURTON

   Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Samuel C. Burton recently received a Letter of 
Commendation while assigned aboard the guided missile destroyer USS John S. 
McCain, forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan.   Burton was recognized for his 
superior performance of duty. Displaying remarkable dedication and initiative, 
he consistently performed his demanding duties in an exemplary and highly 
professional manner.   A 1992 graduate of Terrebonne High School, Burton joined 
the Navy in June 1992.


ROCKY GROW

   Marine Pvt. Rocky T. Grow recently completed basic training at Marine Corps 
Recruit Depot San Diego.   He is the son of Rocky T. Grow Sr. of Houma and is a 
1998 high school graduate.

   Marine Sgt. Louis B. Hatter recently reported for duty with Headquarters and 
Headquarters Squadron, Marine Corps Air Station, Miramar, San Diego.   Hatter, 
a 1992 graduate of Edward Douglas White High School of Thibodaux, joined the 
corps in December 1993. He is the son of Michael A. and Mary M. Hatter of Gray.

BRANDON GORLEY

  Brandon S. Gorley has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry 
Program at the U.S. Army Recruiting Station, Houma.  The Program gives young 
men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year.  
Gorley, a student at Terrebonne High School, will report to Fort Benning, 
Columbus, Ga., for basic training on Aug. 24.  He is the son of Clara M. Gorley 
of Houma.


DARREN VEDROS

  Air Force Tech. Sgt. Darren G. Vedros has graduated from the Air Force 
Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Miss.  The 
graduate received instruction in advanced military leadership and management 
theories and responsibilities; Physical fitness and conditioning; oral and 
written communications skills; supervisory roles relative to the Air Force 
mission and organization; human behavior concepts and problem solving, 
including counseling techniques and orienting new personnel in the principles, 
practices and tools necessary to operate in the Air Force.  Vedros, an air 
traffic control supervisor, is assigned to the 334th Training Squadron, Keesler 
Air Force Base.  He is the son of Marylee Vedros of Lockport.  In 1985, Vedros 
graduated from Central LaFourche High School and in1992 received an associate 
degree from the Community College of the Air Force.


BRAD BOUDREAUX

  Air Force 2nd Lt. Brad M. Boudreaux has arrived for duty at Barksdale Air 
Force Base, Bossier City, La.  Boudreaux is a pilot assigned to the 11th 
Bombardment Squadron.  He is the son of George L and Debbie P. Boudreaux of 
Covington.  His wife, Rachael, is the daughter of Glenn J. and Anne N. Landry 
of Raceland. The lieutenant graduated in 1990 from Saint Paul High School, 
Covington, and received a bachelor's degree in 1994 from Northeast Louisiana 
University, Monroe.


CHAD BURTON

  Air Force Airman 1st Class Chad L Burton has graduated from the ground radio 
communications equipment apprentice course at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, 
Miss.  Course graduates learned to install and maintain high-powered ground 
communications equipment, including transmitters, single and multichannel 
receivers, transceivers and recorders.  Burton is the son of David L. and Janet 
L Burton of Houma.  His wife, Catina, is the daughter of Terrell Parfait of 
Houma.    He is a 1996 graduate of H.L Bourgeois High School.

  Navy Seaman Recruit Alvaro Miranda recently graduated from Operations 
Specialist School at Fleet Combat Training Center, Dam Neck, Virginia Beach, 
VA., to prepare for duty in a shipboard combat information center or at shore-
based fleet training center.  Miranda is a 1998 graduate of Ellender Memorial 
High School. He is the son of Alvaro and Lucy Miranda of Houma.


NICOLAS OUGEL

  Marine Pfc. Nicolas A. Ougel recently was deployed to a combined arms 
exercise at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center; Twenty nine Palms, Calif.  
Ougel is a 1998 graduate of South Lafourche High School and joined the Corps in 
June 1998. He is the son of Carolyn M. Billiot of Lanose, Calif.  His wife, 
Michelle, is the daughter of Terry Melancon of Cut Off.


RHONDA MARCEL

  Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Rhonda Marcel recently departed on a six-month 
deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf aboard the fast combat 
support ship USS Arctic.  Marcel is one of more than 600 sailors aboard the 
ship which departed its home port of Earle, NJ. as of the USS Theodore 
Roosevelt Battle Group. The battle group is comprised of nine tactical air 
squadrons, eight surface combat ants and two submarines and  will relieve the 
USS Enterprise Battle Group.USS main mission is to support the through underway 
replenishment. Marcel, a 1995 graduate Terrebonne High School, joined Navy in 
June 1995.


SCOTT DOUCET

  Scott A. Doucet recently enlisted the United States Air Force completing six 
weeks basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas he will 
receive technical training in a designated area. Scott is a graduate of 
Thibodaux High School.


MELANIE LITTLE

  Melanie Little recently enlisted in the United States Air Force. Upon 
successfully completing the six week basic training course at Lackland Air 
Force Base near San Antonio, she will receive technical training her designated 
career area.  Little is a graduate of Ellender Memorial School.

LANCE FOUSSELL

   Army Pvt. Lance J. Foussell has arrived at Fort Knox, Ky., to complete basic 
combat training. Foussell is a 1996 graduate of  South Terrebonne High School. 
He is son of Linda Foussell of Montegut.


CASEY ORDOYNE

   Marine Lance Cpl. Casey J. Ordoyne is participating in the NATO military 
offensive against Yugoslavia while assigned to Marine Tactical Electronic 
Warfare Squadron One, currently on deployment to Incirlik Air Base, Turkey. 
Ordoyne's squadron deployed to Turkey to continue support of Operation Northern 
Watch, enforcing the no-fly zone over northern Iraq as mandated by the U.N. 
after the1991 Gulf War.   While deployed the squadron was diverted to Aviano 
Air Base, Italy, to support NATO bombing and airstrike missions against 
military and strategic installations in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia.   
Home based at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, N.C., Ordoyne's squadron 
flies the EA-6B Prowler which is capable of jamming enemy radar, providing an 
umbrella of protection for strike aircraft and ground troops. The twin-engine 
prowler carries person crew. Ordoyne, a graduate of E.D. White Catholic High 
School, joined the Marine Corps in January 1998. 


BRAD ROBICHAUX

   Coast Guard Fireman Brad J. Robichaux recently graduated from the U.S. Coast 
Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N. J.  Robichaux is a 1993 graduate 
of Central Lafourche High School in Mathews. He is the son of Barry J. and 
Wanda G. Robichaux of Houma.


WESLEY HITT

   Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Wesley P. Hitt recently graduated from the 
Navy's Basic Nuclear Power School at Naval Nuclear Power Training Unit, 
Ballston Spa, N.Y.  Hitt was trained to operate a reactor on a nuclear-powered 
submarine, cruiser or aircraft carrier.  He is a 1997 graduate of Central 
Lafourche High School. Hitt joined the Navy in July 1997. He is the son of 
Craig C. and Gwen Hitt of Gheens.


LAINE MATHERNE

   Marine Pvt. Laine M. Matherne recently completed basic training at 
MarineCorps Recruit Depot, San Diego. Matherne is a 1998 graduate of South 
Terrebonne High School. He is the son of Trudy L. Lyons of Chauvin and of 
Nathan L. Matherne of Houma.

KEITH GROS

   Marine Sgt. Maj. Keith J. Gros recently reported for duty with 24thMarines, 
4th Marine Division, Kansas City, Mo. Gros, a 1972 graduate of Central 
Lafourche High School of Mathews, joined the Marine Corps in July of 1973. His 
wife, Cathy, is the daughter of Mary L. Vedros of Lockport, LA.


KRISTAN LEWIS

   Kristan H. Lewis recently enlisted into the United States Air Force. After 
completing the Air Force's six-week basic training course at Lackland Air Force 
Base near San Antonio, she will receive technical training in her designated 
career area. Lewis, a high school graduate, will earn credits toward an 
associate degree in applied sciences through the community college of the Air 
Force.


SAMUEL BURTON

Navy Recruiting District Seattle.   Burton, a 1992 graduate of Terrebonne High 
School, joined the Navy in June 1992.


JAMES ARTHUR

   Marine Pvt. James D. Arthur recently completed basic training at Marine 
Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.   He is the son of James D. and Sara E. Fuller 
Arthur of Schriever.


JASON LANDRY

   Navy Hospital man Recruit Jason J. Landry recently graduated from Basic 
Hospital Corps School at Naval Hospital Corps School, Great Lakes, Ill.   
Landry's training will enable him to help provide health care to Navy and 
Marine Corps personnel and their families.   A 1998 graduate of Terrebonne High 
School, Landry joined the Navy in September 1998.   He is the son of Jeffery S. 
Landry and of Jody A. Landry, both of Houma.


JESSIE LEE

Southern Iraq and conducting maritime interception operations.   While deployed 
Lee and fellow crew members had the opportunity to visit Souda Bay, Crete; 
Cannes, France; Livomo and Trieste, Italy; Antalya Turkey and the United Arab 
Emirates.   Lee, a 1995 graduate of Terrebonne High School, joined the Navy in 
June 1995. He is the son of Bart G. and Esther L Lee of Houma. His wife, Mary, 
is the daughter of Freddie P .and Barbra Bergeron of Theriot.

IN SERVICE

ANDREW BOYET

  Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class J. Andrew Boyet is halfway through a three month 
deployment to the Arabian Gulf, while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS 
Kitty Hawk, based in Yokosuka, Japan.  Boyet and fellow sai1ors are 
participating in Operation Southern Watchen forcing U.N. resolutions levied 
against Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War. During the operation they are patrolling 
the no-fly zone over southern Iraq and prohibiting the flow of illicit 
contraband to and from Iraq.  During the first half of the deployment the ship 
made port visits to Bahrain and Jebel Ali of the United Arab Emirates.  While 
in port Boyet had the opportunity to participate in community relations 
projects.  Aircraft carriers, like USS Kitty Hawk are forward deployed around 
the world to maintain a U.S. presence and provide rapid response in times of 
crisis.  They serve as a highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors and, 
if deterrence fails, offer the most versatile and powerful weapons available.  
The 1994 graduate of Thibodaux High School joined the Navy inDecember1995. He 
is the son of Beth Boyet of Thibodaux and of Wayne E. Boyet of Houma.

  Hanna M. Fanguy recently enlisted in the United States Air Force. Upon 
successfully completing the Air Force's six-week basic training course at 
Lackland Air Force Base near San Antonio, Texas, Fanguy will receive technical 
training in her designated career area.  Fanguy, a graduate of H.L. Bourgeois 
High School, will earn credits toward an associate degree in applied sciences 
through the community college of the Air Force while attending basic and 
technical training schools.


JASON LANDRY

  Navy Hospital-man Recruit Jason L. Landry recently reported for duty at Naval 
Hospital, Jacksonville, Fla.  Landry, a 1998 graduate of Terrebonne High 
School, joined the Navy in August 1998. He is the son of Jeffery S. Landry and 
of Jody J. Landry, both of Houma.


DEIDRE COLEMAN

  Deidre L Coleman recently enlisted in the United States Air Force.  Coleman 
will receive technical training in her designated career area upon successfully 
completing the Air Force's six-week basic training course at Lackland Air Force 
Base near San Antonio, Texas.  A graduate of H.L Bourgeois High School, Coleman 
will earn credits toward an associate degree in applied sciences through the 
community college of the Air Force while attending basic and technical training 
schools.


DAVID DEHART

  David Dehart recently enlisted in the United States Air Force. Dehart will 
receive technical training in his designated career area upon successful 
completion of the Air Force's six-week basic training course at Lackland Air

CURTIS CHERAMIE

  Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Curtis J. Cheramie recently departed on a 
six-month deployment to the Arabian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS 
Constellation, home-ported in San Diego.  Cheramie's ship is scheduled to visit 
ports in Australia, Hawaii, Japan, Korea and Malaysia as the lead ship of the 
USS Constellation Battle Group. The battle group is comprised of nine tactical 
air squadrons, five surface combatants and two sub-marines.  Carriers, like the 
USS Constellation, are forward deployed around the world to maintain a U.S. 
presence and provide rapid response in times of crisis. They serve as a highly 
visible deterrent to would-be aggressors and, if deterrence fails, offer the 
most versatile and powerful weapons available, including Tomahawk cruise 
missiles and tactical aircraft. Cheramie, a 1974 graduate of South Lafourche 
High School, joined the Navy in May 1979. He is a 1979 graduate of Nicholls 
State University   and a 1993 graduate of Webster University, St. Louis, Mo.  
He is the son of Gilmas J. and Augusta V. Cheramie of Galliano. His wife, 
Arlette, is the daughter of John R. and Bertha Theriot of Raceland.     


DAVIS PORTIER

  Davis J. Portier enlisted in the United States Air Force. Portier will 
receive technical training in his designated career area upon successfully 
completing the Air Force's six-week basic training course at Lackland Air Force 
Base,  near San Antonio, Texas.  Portier, a graduate of Berwick High School, 
will earn credits toward  an associate degree in applied sciences through the 
Community College of the Air Force while attending basic and technical,

SAMUEL DARDAR

  Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Samuel S. Dardar recently departed on a six-
month deployment to the Arabian Gulf aboard the destroyer USS Kinkaid, home-
ported in San Diego.  While on deployment Dardar's ship made a port visit to 
Chinhae, Republic of Korea, where he and fellow sailors helped clean up a local 
beach as part of a community relations project. Dardar also had the opportunity 
to experience the culture, customs and traditions of Korea.  Destroyers, like 
Dardar's ship, have traditionally been the workhorses of the U.S. Navy, 
defending battle groups against threats from land, air, on and below the sea. 
Equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles, Harpoon anti-ship missiles and Sea 
Sparrow Missiles, USS Kinkaid is capable of hitting enemy targets hundreds of 
miles away. In addition, the ship carries two helicopters with sonar and 
torpedo capabilities, expanding the ship's reach.  Dardar is a 1989 graduate of 
South Lafourche High School. He is the son of Summersgill J. Dardar of Golden 
Meadow.

  Timothy J. Chauvin enlisted recently in the United States Air Force.    Upon 
successfully completing the Air Force's six-week basic training course at

JIMMY MCGINTEY

  Navy Chief Petty Officer Jimmy C. McGintey is currently conducting counter-
drug patrols in the Caribbean Sea aboard the guided-missile cruiser USS Thomas 
S. Gates, home ported in Pascagoula, Miss.  Since departing their home port in 
June, McGintey and fellow crewmembers have boarded suspect vessels as part of 
their mission to stop the flow of illegal drugs into the United States.   In 
addition, McGintey's ship made a port visit to Colon, Panama.  McGintey's ship 
is one of the most powerful warships ever put to sea.  The computer-based AEGIS 
weapons system is the heart of the ship's War-fighting capability. It center’s 
around a powerful radar that enable the crew to detect, track and fire on more 
than 100 targets at a time.  McGintey joined the Navy in August 1980.  He is a 
1980 graduate of H.L. Bourgeois High School.

  Air Force Tech. Sgt. Marty Orgeron has graduated from the Air Force 
Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Kapaun Air Station, Kaiserslautern, Germany.  
The graduate received instruction in advanced military leader ship and 
management theories and responsibilities; physical fitness and conditioning; 
oral and written communications skills; supervisory roles relative to the Air 
Force mission and organization; human behavior concepts and problem solving, 
including counseling techniques and orienting new personnel in the principles, 
practices and tools necessary to operate in the Air Force. Orgeron is a 
helicopter crew chief assigned to the 352ndMaintenance Squadron at RAF 
Mildenhall, Cambridge, England.  The sergeant is the son of Ernest J and Sylvia 
A Orgeron of Lockport.  He is a 1985 graduate of Central Lafourche High School.


MARCIE PICOU

  Amy Pvt. Marcie S. Picou has graduated from basic military training at Fort 
Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.  During the training, the trainee received 
instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military 
courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and 
traditions.  Picou is the daughter of Alex A and Theresa M. Picou of Raceland.

JEFFREY PREVOST

  Navy Seaman Jeffrey J. Prevost recently returned from a six-month deployment 
while assigned to Fighter Squadron 14, embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS 
Theodore Roosevelt.  During the deployment, the squadron helped conduct NATO 
bombing and airstrike missions against military and strategic installations in 
the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Operation Allied Force, the largest NATO 
air attack in Europe,  was launched after Yugoslavian President Slobodan 
Milosevic refused diplomatic efforts to end his military offenses and accept 
peace terms with the ethnic Albanian majority in the Kosovarprovince.  The 
squadron also participated in Operation Southern Watch in the Arabian Gulf, 
enforcing U.N. resolutions levied against Iraq after the1991Gulf War, 
patrolling the no-fly zone over southern Iraq and prohibiting the flow of 
contraband to and from Iraq.  Prevost also visited cities in France and Spain. 
Home-based at Naval Air Station Oceana, Va., Prevost's squadron, flies the 
Navy's F-14 Tomcat.  Prevost is a 1998 graduate of Bourgeois High School and 
joined the Navy in June 1998. He is the son of Robert A and Carole Prevost of 
Gray.

  Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Rhonda Marcel recently returned from a six-month 
deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf aboard the fast support 
ship USS Arctic.  The ship participated in Operation Southern Watch in the 
Arabian Gulf, enforcing the U.N. resolution levied against Iraq after the 1991 
Gulf War, patrolling the no-fly zone over southern Iraq and prohibiting the 
flow of contraband to and from Iraq. USS Arctic's main mission is to support 
the fleet through underway replenishment.  Marcel, a 1995 graduate of 
Terrebonne High School, joined the Navy in June 1995.


RODNEY FULCHER

  Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Rodney H. Fulcher recently received a Letter 
of Commendation while assigned with Marine Safety Office, Charleston, S.C.  
Fulcher was recognized for his superior performance of duty.  Displaying 
remarkable dedication and initiative, Fulcher consistently performed his 
demanding duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner.  Fulcher 
joined the Coast Guard in September 1981. His wife, Adele is the daughter of 
John R. and Germaine G. Theriot of Houma.

  Marine PFC Jerry J. LeBouef recently reported for duty with 3rdSupport

BENJAMIN HEBERT

  Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Benjamin P. Hebert has returned from a six-month 
deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the 22nd 
Marine Expeditionary Unit home ported at Camp Lejeune, N.C.  The 22nd MEU is 
part of the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group.  Hebert along with the rest of the 
22nd MEU, participated in Exercise Bright Star '99 with coalition forces from 
10 other nations. Exercise Bright Star '99 was the 11th exercise in the series 
which began in 1980, and is important to the U.S. and Egyptian military 
relationship, which anchors the Middle East peace process.  Hebert's unit is an 
expeditionary intervention force with the ability to rapidly organize for 
combat operations in virtually any environment.  MEUs are composed of more 
than.2,000 personnel and are divided into an infantry battalion, an aircraft 
squadron, a support group and a command element. With the combination of these 
teams, Hebert's unit supplies and sustains itself for either quick mission 
accomplishment or clearing the way for follow-on forces.  Hebert, a 1993 
graduate of Ellender Memorial High School, joined the Navy in January1994.  He 
is the son of Sandra A. Hebert of Gray and Dennis P. Hebert Jr. of Houma.


BRODY MATHERNE

  Marine Corps Pvt. Brody Kai Matherne has completed basic military training at 
Marine Corps Recruiting Depot San Diego. He is currently stationed at Camp 
Pendleton Marine Corps Base in California.  Brody is a 1999 graduate of South 
Terrebonne High School. He is the son of Ivan J. Matherne of Bourg and Debra

TODD CURLIN

  Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Todd M. Curlin has returned from a six-month 
deployment to the Western Pacific Ocean and Arabian Gulf aboard the amphibious 
assault ship USS Peleliu, home ported in San Diego.  During the deployment, 
Curlin's ship assisted the international force in the East Timor Seain an 
effort to re-establish communication and provide heavy-lift and planning 
support following political unrest.  Curlin's ship and its embarked Marines 
present a formidable U.S. presence which can provide a rapid response in times 
of crisis. Sailors and Marines aboard the ship can conduct a variety of 
missions from reconnaissance and amphibious assaults to evacuation of civilians 
and providing humanitarian aid.  Curlin, a 1995 graduate of South Terrebonne 
High School, joined the Navy in October1997. He is the son of Richard W. and 
Lisa M. Curlin of Bourg.

  Marine Corps Pvt. Phuong H. Le has completed basic training at Marine Corps 
Recruit Depot, San Diego.  Le, a 1999 graduate of South Terrebonne High School,

 Army Pvt. Daisy M. Guidry has graduated from One Station Unit Training at Fort 
Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo.  The course of instruction included basic 
military training and advanced individual training. During basic military 
training, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, 
map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, 
first aid, and Army history and traditions. During AIT, the soldier completed 
the military police specialist course and learned to provide combat area 
support by conducting battlefield circulation control, area security, prisoner 
of war operations, civilian internee operations, and law and order operations. 
The trainee also learned to provide peacetime support to the military community 
through security of resources, crime prevention programs, and preservation of 
law and order. Guidry is the daughter of Daisy M. Guidry of Montegut. The 
private is a 1999 graduate of South Terrebonne High School.

 Air Force Reserve Airman Isaac Scott Jr. has graduated from the automated 
logistical specialist advanced individual training course at Fort Lee,

JENNIFER GIRARD

Jennifer E. Girard has graduated from the Army Reserve Officer training Corps 
Camp Challenge at Fort Knox, Ky. Camp Challenge is a five-week carnp designed 
to qualify college students who have not taken ROTC courses on campus to enter 
the Advanced Senior ROTC program. The daughter of James E.Girard of Cut Off and 
of Nancy Scruggs of Cotal, Calif., Girard is a 1994h igh school graduate.


SAM DEGENERES

Second Lt. Samuel L.H. deGeneres completed 62 weeks of intensive     pilot 
training in the Euro-NATO Joint jet Pilot Training Program at Sheppard Air 
Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas. He received his silver Air Force wings 
along with 28 other officers on Oct. 20 in ceremonies at Sheppard. His wings 
were pinned on by his father, Brig. Gen. Samuel G. deGeneres, who received his 
wings at Webb Air Force Base in May 1970. Lt deGeneres entered training in 
August 1999 where he trained in the T-37 Tweet and the supersonic T-38 Talon. 
Upon completion of F-15 fighter training in Klamath Falls, Ore., he and his 
wife, the former Robyn Smarada of Baton Rouge, will return to Belle Chasse 
where he will fly the F-15 for the Louisiana Air National Guard 159th Fighter 
Wing, 122nd Fighter Squadron.


TAMIKA STOVE

PV2 Tamika N. Stove, a 2000 graduate of Terrebonne High School, was temporarily 
working with recruiters of the Army recruiting station in Houma. Stove was 
stationed in Houma from Nov. 30 to Dec. 19. Since completing basic training, 
Stove attended 10 weeks of advanced individual training. Her Army occupational 
specialty is ammunition specialist. Stove enlisted in the Army in July 2000. 
She is the daughter of Gwendolyn M. Stove of Houma.


JEREMY SKIDMORE

Marine Corps Pvt. Jeremy J. Skidmore completed basic training at Marine Corps 
Recruit Depot, Parris Island, S.C. Skidmore and fellow recruits ended the 
training phase with The Crucible, a 54-hour team effort, problem-solving 
evolution that culminated in a ceremony in which the recruits were presented 
the Marine Corps Emblem, and were addressed as Marines for the first time since 
boot camp began. Skidmore is a 1998 graduate of Thibodaux High School. He is 
the son of Lucille T. and Richard T. Skidmore of Thibodaux.

Air Force Airman Patrick E. Dick has graduated from basic military training at 
Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. Dick is a 2000 graduate of Central

Johnathon Trahan, a senior at Terrebonne High School, enlisted in the United 
States Marine Corps Delayed Entry Program. This program allows high school 
seniors to enlist in the Marine Corps and defer going to recruit training until 
after graduation.


RACHEL SHERBURNE

Rachel A Sherburne has receive an Air Force ROT'C college scholarship offer. 
The cadet was selected on the basis of comprehensive tests, high school 
scholastic achievement and extra-curricular activities. Upon graduation and 
completion of the ROTC program, she will be commissioned as a second lieutenant

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Paul J. Bergeron is participating in a six-month 
deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to 
Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron 7, embarked aboard the aircraft carrier, USS 
Harry S. Truman, home ported in Norfolk, Va. While on deployment the squadron 
visited Souda Bay, Crete, where the crew had the opportunity to shop, sightsee 
and enjoy local culture and cuisine. The squadron, home based at Naval Air 
Station Jacksonville, Fla., flies theSH-60F and HH-60H helicopters, twin 
turbine powered aircraft with a maxi-mum gross weight of more than 21,000 
pounds. The SH-6OFs primary mission Is antisubmarine warfare and the HH-60H's 
primary missions are combat search and rescue and naval-special warfare 
support. Bergeron, a. 1997 graduate of Ellender Memorial High School, joined 
the Navy in July 1998. He is the son of Janet Bergeron and Perry Bergeron, both

Navy Fireman Michael P. Nevils is engaged in a six-month deployment to the 
Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS 
Harry S. Truman, home ported in Norfolk, Va. While on deployment, crew members 
from Nevils' ship participate in damage control Olympics, a competition 
designed to train the crew to properly handle a crisis at sea. The ship also 
visited Souda Bay, Crete, where crew had the opportunity to shop, sightsee and 
enjoy the local culture and cuisine. Carriers like USS Harry S, Truman are 
deployed around the world to maintain U.S. presence and provide rapid response 
in times of crisis. They serve as a visible deterrent to would-be aggressors 
and are equipped with the most versatile and powerful weapons and aircraft 
available. Nevits is a 1998 graduate of Ellender Memorial High School.

Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Rhett A. Amedee recently graduated from the 
Nuclear Field, "A" School at Naval Nuclear Power Training Command, Goose Creek, 
S.C. The three-to six-month course teaches machinist's mates, electrician's 
mates and electronics technicians the basics of their jobs. It provides hands-
on training on equipment designed to teach technical skills. Amedee will attend 
follow-on training at the Nuclear Power School, and receive more detailed 
instruction on principles of science and engineering, construction, and 
operation and maintenance of naval nuclear propulsion plants. Amedee also was 
promoted to his current rank. Amedee, a 1999 graduate of Vandebilt Catholic 
High School, joined the Navy in June 2000. He is the son of Sherron and Richard 
A. Amedee of Houma.

CARDAN SMITH

Cardan D. Smith has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry 
Program. Smith will report to Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., for basic training. 
He is the son of Gwendolyn N. Smith of Thibodaux and Craig S. Stuart of 
Lockport.


MICHAEL NEVILS

Navy Fireman Michael P. Nevils recently returned from a six-month deployment to 
the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf while assigned to the aircraft carrier 
USS Harry S. Truman, home ported in Norfolk, Va. While operating in the Persian 
Gulf, the Truman Battle Group enforced United Nations sanctions against Iraq by 
diverting 22 vessels with more than $5million of suspected contra-band cargo. 
Nevils participated in numerous international exercises, including "Arabian 
Gauntlet," an 11-nation exercise involving more than 20 ships. The Sailors also 
worked to strengthen relationships and improve interoperability with the many 
other countries they encountered during the deployment. The ship also visited 
the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Greece and Turkey, where he had the 
opportunity to shop, sightsee and enjoy the local culture and cuisine. This was 
the maiden deployment for USS Harry S. Truman. The ship was commissioned July 
25, 1998, and competed its final pre-deployment certification exercise in 
October,2000.Carriers like USS Harry S. Truman are deployed around the world to 
maintain U. S. presence and provide rapid response in times of crisis. They 
serve as a highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors, and are equipped 
with the most versatile and powerful weapons and aircraft available. Nevils is 
a 1998 graduate of Ellender High School, Houma.


QUINCY QUEEN

Quincy D. Queen has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry 
Program. Queen will report to Fort Jackson, Columbia, S. C., for basic 
training. He is the son of Joan J. and Ernest Queen of Thibodaux.


EMERY QUEEN

Emery D. Queen has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry 
Program. The recruit qualifies for an enlistment bonus. Queen, a 2000 high 
school graduate, will report to Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., for basic

RUMMANUEL CARTER

  Navy Seaman Romanuel G. Carter has returned from a six-month deployment to 
the Mediterranean Sea while assigned to the fast combat support ship USS 
Arctic, home ported in Earle, N. J.  The USS Arctic was one of the first to 
respond to our nation's call, proudly participating in Operation Enduring 
Freedom.  During the deployment, Carter's ship visited cities in Bahrain, 
France, Greece, Scotland and Spain, where sailors had the opportunity to shop, 
sight see and enjoy the local culture and cuisine.  The ship is the Navy's 
largest combat logistics ship. It carries oil, ammunition, dry stores and 
refrigerated stores to replenish carrier battle groups.  Carter is a 1993 
graduate of Thibodaux High School. He joined the Navy in June 2000. He is the 
son of Sandra A. Carter-Jones of Thibodaux.


BRETT OLIVIERI

  S. R. Brett Michael Olivieri has graduated from the Naval Training Command 
Center in Great Lakes, Ill.  He successfully completed the required nine weeks 
of training.  He is now attending Subfarer School Groton, Ct.  Olivieri is a 
2001 graduate of H.L. Bourgeois High School. He is the son of Richard and 
Monica Olivieri of Houma.


JAY BERTHELOT

  Marine Corps Pfc. Jay Berthelot has completed the Small Arms Repair Course at 
the U. S. Army's Proving Ground in Aberdeen, Md.  He is a 1998 graduate of 
Thibodaux High School.


CHAD COSTON

  Marine Corps Staff Sgt Chad M. Coston was promoted to his current rank while 
serving with 2nd Assault Amphibian Battalion, 2nd Marine Division, Marine Corps 
Base, Camp LeJeune, N. C.  Coston was promoted based on sustained superior job 
performance and proficiency in his designated specialty.  Coston a 1994 
graduate of H. L. Bourgeois High School joined the Marine Corps in June 1994.  
He is the son Claudia M. Boudreaux of Houma and Alvin R. Coston of Dularge.


SYNDER LOUPE

  Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Synder A. Loupe has reported for duty aboard the 
amphibious assault ship USS Saipan, home ported in Norfolk, Va. Loupe, a 1995 
graduate of H. L. Bourgeois High School, joined the Navy in May 1998. She is 
the daughter of Robert J. Punch of Houma.


FLYNN LEATHERS

  Marine Corps Sgt. Flynn L. Leathers has completed the Marine Corps' 
Curriculum Developer course.  Leathers joined the Marine Corps in July 1996. He 
is the son of Sarnme and Brian S. Leathers of Gray.


DEREK GREENE

  Marine Corps Pfc. Derek S. Greene has completed basic training at Marine 
Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.  Greene is a 2000 graduate of Thibodaux High 
School. He is the son of Debra A. Greene and Douglas S. Greene of Thibodaux.


EDMOND BERGERON

  Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Edmond J. Bergeron was selected as Junior Sailor 
of the Quarter at Naval Ocean Processing Facility, Virgina Beach, Va.  Bergeron 
was chosen as the top performer from among all the sailors assigned to the 
command and was cited for outstanding professional accomplishment, proficiency, 
leadership, initiative and military bearing.  Bergeron, a 1987 graduate of 
South Terrebonne High School, joined the Navy in January 1989. He is the son of 
Hazel M. and Paul P Bergeron of Houma.


WILLIAM GRIGSBY

  Marine Corps Staff Sgt. William J. Grigsby has completed the Engineer 
Equipment Chief Course.  Grigsby, a 1989 graduate of South Lafourche High 
School, joined the Marine Corps in October 1989. He is the son of Maggie B. 
Grigsby of Galliano and Water P Grigsby of Lockport.


ANTHONY ROMERO

  Marine Corps Pvt. Anthony J Romero Jr. has completed Basic Training at Marine 
Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.  Romero is a 2000 graduate of South Terrebonne 
High School of Bourg. He is the son of Melanie J. Landry of Bourg and Anthony 
J. Romero Sr. of Montegut.


JEREMY STEVENS

  Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Jeremy W. Stevens has reported for duty with 
Headquarters and Service Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, 
Japan.  Stevens, a 1999 graduate of Ellender Memorial High School, joined the 
Marine Corps in June 1999. He is the son of Sherry Belanger of Bourg and 
Richard G. Stevens of Wesson, Miss.

  Marine Corps Reserve Pfc. Sean M. Dupree has completed basic training at 
Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego.  He is a 2000 graduate of H. L. Bourgeois

  Marine Corps Pfc. Christopher B. Rodriguez has completed basic training at 
Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego.  He is the son of Laura A. Teekell of 
Houma.


MARTIN BOUDREAUX

  Martin Boudreaux of Schriever has joined the Louisiana Army National Guard. 
He plans to attend college using the Guard's College Tuition Exemption program.  
Private Boudreaux will be trained as an infantry soldier.  He is the, son of 
Mike and Joan Bourg.

  Army Pvt. Donald G. Livas has graduated from basic, combat training at Fort 
Jackson, Columbia, S.C.  During the nine weeks of training, the soldier

  Army National Guard Pfc. David M. Triche has graduated from basic infantry 
training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.  The soldier received training in drill 
and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military 
justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and traditions.  During 
infantry training, he developed basic combat skills and battlefield operations 
and tactics, and experienced using various weapons and weapons defenses 
available to the infantry crewman.  He is the son of Kenneth Triche of Houma 
and a 2001 graduate of Terrebonne High School.

  Army Pvt. Paul Hidalgo has graduated from basic combat training at Fort

  Air Force Airman Nicole Fournier has graduated from basic military training 
at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.  During the six weeks of 
training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and customs; 
performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training and 
special training in human relations. In addition, airmen who complete basic 
training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College 
of the Air Force.  She is the daughter of Diana Fournier of Lafayette and 
sister of Angele Fournier of Houma.


CARDAN SMITH

Army Pvt. Cardan Smith has graduated from the unit supply specialist advanced 
individual training course at Fort Lee, Petersburg, Va.  The student was 
trained to receive, inspect, segregate, store, inventory, issue, deliver and 
turn-in of organizational and installation supplies and equipment maintain 
automated supply systems for accountability with use of unit computers; issue 
and receipt of small arms, and secure and control weapons and ammunition 
supplies.  Smith is the son of Gwendolyn Smith of Thibodaux and a 2001 graduate 
of Thibodaux High School.
