Harris completed a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific Ocean, Indian Ocean and Arabian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln. Harris was one of more than 5,000 sailors and Marines aboard the ship which returned to its homeport of Everett, Wash., after leading the USS Abraham Lincoln Battle Group, comprised of 10 tactical air squadrons, five surface combatants and two sub-marines. While deployed in the Arabian Gulf, Harris' ship aided multinational interception operations in prohibiting contraband transports to and from Iraq. In addition, planes from the embarked air wing flew 1,855 missions during Operation Southern Watch to support sanctions imposed by the U.N. against Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War. During the deployment, Harris and crew members had the opportunity to visit Hong Kong, Singapore and the United Arab Emirates. While in Hong Kong, crew members participated in Project Handclasp providing humanitarian aid to disaster relief organizations, a school for the mentally handicapped and an international Christian school. In addi tion to providing food, hygienic items, toys, books and paper to the recipients, members of Harris' ship cleaned and repaired and painted buildings. Harris is a 1997 graduate of Central Lafourche High School. He joined the Navy in June 1997. He is the son of Danny J. and Brenda A Harris of Raceland. BRADLEY JOHNSON Marine Cpl. Bradley M. Johnson recently completed the Marine Corps' Range Coach course and received a Certificate of Commendation. Johnson, a 1995 graduate of Thibodaux High School, joined the Marine Corps in May 1996. He is the son of Merrick M. and Alison P. Johnson of Thibodaux. JAMIE BOUDREAUX Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Jamie J. Boudreaux recently reported for duty aboard the aircraft carrier USS John C. Stennis, homeported in San Diego. Boudreaux is a 1994 graduate of Terrebonne High School who joined the Navy in September 1996. He is the son of Russ A Boudreaux of Houma and Helene B. Eschete of Montegut. His wife Kimberly is the daughter of Linda Dill of Houma. JESSE LEE Navy Airinan Jesse M. Lee recently participated in Operation Desert Fox while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, currently deployed to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf. During the operation, U.S. forces launched attacks on military installations in Iraq after Iraqi President Saddarn Hussein's refusal to allow U.N. teams to inspect Iraqi installations for weapons of mass destruction. President Hussein constantly denied inspectors access to facilities which could house or manufacture such weapons in Iraq. The USS Enterprise, homeported in Norfolk, Va., is forward deployed around the world to maintain a U.S. presence and provide rapid response in time of crisis. They serve as a visible deterrent to would be aggressors and, if deterrence fails, offer the most versatile and powerful weapons available, including Tomahawk cruise missiles and tactical aircraft. Lee, a 1995 graduate of Terrebonne High School, joined the Navy in June 1995. He is the son of Bart G. and Esther L Lee of Houma. His wife Mary is the daughter of Freddie P. and Barbara Bergeron of Theriot. GREG VIZIER Marine Cpl. Greg M. Vizier has completed the Marine Corps' Marksmanship Instructor/Range Coach Course with Weapons Training Battalion, Edson Range Area, Camp Pendleton, Calif. Vizier was awarded a Meritorious Mast by his commanding officer as official recognition for superior individual performance. The award was issued in the form of a bulletin published throughout the command and a copy was entered in Vizier's permanent service records. Vizier is a 1993 gra duate of South Lafourche High School. He joined the Marine Corps in August 1993. He is the son of Rusty J. and Maudrey G.Vizier of Cut Off. Bergeron has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman is the daughter of Jean M. Bergeron and Alex J. Bergeron, both of Houma. She is a 1998 graduate of H. L Bourgeois High School. RHONDA MARCEL Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Rhonda Marcet recently participated in the Atlantic Joint Task Force Exercise while assigned to the supply ship USS Arctic, homeported in Earl, NJ. Marcel was one of more than 24,000 joint U.S. and allied military personnel who participated in the U.S. Navy exercise off the coast of the south-eastern United States. The exercise involved the US S Meodore Roosevelt Battle Group and the USS Kearsuge Amphibious Ready Group with the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit embarked. Both groups are scheduled to deploy to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf this spring. The exercise focused on preparing naval forces for contingencies they may encounter during the six month deployment. During the 18-day major training exercise sailors and marines from the ship received training in operations. Marcel, a 1995 graduate of Terrebonne High School in Houma joined the Navy in June 1995. PATRICK NEIGEL Marine Cpl. Patrick L. Neigel recently completed cold weather training in a variety of areas, from cold weather war fare tactics to survival skills, including cross-country skiing and snow shoeing, patrolling and defending carnp, conducting a mountain assault, setting traps and snares for food, building snow caves, making signal fires and basic skills essential for survival in cold harsh climates. Neigel is currently assigned with 3rd Battalion, 2nd Marines, 2nd Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Lejeune, N.C. The son of Sandy L Ostheirner of Houma, he is a 1995 graduate of H.L. Bourgeois High School. WILLIAM SAVOIE Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class William A. Savoie was recently promoted to his present rank while serving aboar d the aircraft carrier USS George Washington, homeported in Norfolk, Va. Savoie was promoted based on sustained superior job performance and proficiency in his designated specialty. A 1996 graduate of Ellender High School, Savoie joined the Navy in June of 1996. His wife Nancy is the daughter of Kieth and Diana Cortez of Houma. COREY HUTCHINSON Marine Pvt. Corey A. Hutchinson of Montegut recently completed basic training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego. The son of Rhonda V. Hutchinson of Montegut, he is a 1998 graduate of South Terrebonne High School. JODY MANDEVILLE Navy Ensign Jody W. Mandeville recently received his commission as a naval officer after completing Officer Candidate School at Naval Aviation Schools Command, Naval Air Station, Pensacola, Fla. During the 13-week-long training program, Mandeville received instruction on a variety of specialized subjects including navigation, ship handling, engineering, naval warfare and management and completed a demanding daily physical fitness prograrn. Mandeville, a 1992 graduate of South Terrebonne High School, joined the Navy in January 1992. He is the son of George W. Mandeville of Houma. SAMUEL BURTON Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Samuel C. Burton recently received a Letter of Comme ndation while assigned aboard the guided missile destroyer USS John S. McCain, forward deployed to Yokosuka, Japan. Burton was recognized for his superior performance of duty. Displaying remarkable dedication and initiative, he consistently performed his demanding duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner. Gorley has joined the United States Army under the Delayed Entry Program at the U.S. Army Recruiting Station, Houma. The Program gives young men and women the opportunity to delay entering active duty for up to one year. Gorley, a student at Terrebonne High School, will report to Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga., for basic training on Aug. 24. He is the son of Clara M. Gorley of Houma. DARREN VEDROS Air Force Tech. Sgt. Darren G. Vedros has graduated from the Air Force Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Keesler Air Force Base, Biloxi, Miss. The graduate received instruction in advanced military leadership and management theories and responsibilities; Physical fitness and conditioning;oral and written communications skills; supervisory roles relative to the Air Force mission and organization; human behavior concepts and problem solving, including counseling techniques and orienting new personnel in the principles, practices and tools necessary to operate in the Air Force. Vedros, an air traffic control supervisor, is assigned to the 334th Training Squadron, Keesler Air Force Base. He is the son of Marylee Vedros of Lockporrt. In 1985, Vedros graduated from Central LaFourche High School and in 1992 received an associate degree from the Community College of the Air Force. BRAD BOUDREAUX Air Force 2nd Lt. Brad M. RHONDA MARCEL Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Rhonda Marcel recently departed on a six-m onth deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Arabian Gulf aboard the fast combat support ship USS Arctic. Marcel is one of more than 600 sailors aboard the ship which departed its home port of Earle, NJ. as of the USS Theodore Roosevelt Battle Group. Lance J. Foussell has arrived at Fort Knox, Ky., to complete basic combat training. Foussell is a 1996 graduate of South Terrebonne High School. He is son of Linda Foussell of Montegut. CASEY ORDOYNE Marine Lance Cpl. Casey J. Ordoyne is participating in the NATO military offensive against Yugoslavia while assigned to Marine Tactical Electronic Warfare Squadron One, currently on deployment to Incirlik Air Base, Turkey. Ordoyne's squadron deployed to Turkey to continue support of Operation Northern Watch, enforcing the no-fly zone over northern Iraq as mandated by the U.N. after the 1991 Gulf War. While deployed the squadron was diverted to Aviano Air Base, Italy, to support NATO bombing and airstrike missions against military and strategic installations in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Home based at Marine Corps Air Station, Cherry Point, N.C., Ordoyne's squadron flies the EA-6B Prowler which is capable of jamming enemy radar, providing an umbrella of protection for strike aircraft and ground troops. The twin-engine prowler carries a four-person crew. Ordoyne, a graduate of E.D. White Catholic High School, joined the Marine Corps in January 1998. BRAD ROBICHAUX Coast Guard Fireman Brad J. Andrew Boyet is halfway through a three month deployment to the Arabian Gulf, while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, based in Yokosuka, Japan. Boyet and fellow sai1ors are participating in Operation Southern Watch enforcing U.N. resolutions levied against Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War. During the operation they are patrolling the no-fly zone over southern Iraq and prohibiting the flow of illicit contraband to and from Iraq. CURTIS CHERAMIE Navy Senior Chief Petty Officer Curtis J. Cheramie recently departed on a six-month deployment to the Arabian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS Constellation, home-ported in San Diego. Cheramie's ship is scheduled to visit ports in Australia, Hawaii, Japan, Korea and Malaysia as the lead ship of the USS Constellation Battle Group. The battle group is comprised of nine tactical air squadrons, five surface combatants and two sub-marines. Carriers, like the USS Constellation, are forward deployed around the world to maintain a U.S. presence and provide rapid response in times of crisis. They serve as a highly visible deterrent to would-be aggressors and, if deterrence fails, offer the most versatile and powerful weapons available, including Tomahawk cruise missiles and tactical aircraft. Cheramic, a 1974 graduate of South Lafourche High School, joined the Navy in May 1979. He is a 1979 graduate of Nicholls State University and a 1993 graduate of Webster University, St. Louis, Mo. He is the son of Gilmas J. and Augusta V. Cheramie of Galliano. His wife, Arlette, is the daughter of John R. and Bertha Theriot of Raceland. DAVIS PORTIER Davis J. Portier enlisted in the Unitcd States Air Force. Portier will receive technical training in his designated career area upon successfully completing the Air Force's six-week basic training course at Lackland Air Force Base, near San Antonio, Texas. Portier, a graduate of Berwick High School, will earn credits toward an associate degree in applied sciences through the Community College of the Air Force while attending basic and technical, training schools. SAMUEL DARDAR Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Samuel S. Dardar recently departed on a six-month deployment to the Arabian Gulf aboard the destroyer USS Kinkaid, home-ported in San Diego. While on deployment, Dardar's ship made a port visit to Chinhae, Republic of Korea, where he and fellow sailors helped clean up a local beach as part of a community relations project. Dardar also had the opportunity to experience the culture, customs and traditions of Korea. Destroyers, like Dardar's ship, have traditionally been the workhorses of the U.S. Navy, defending battle groups against threats from land, air, on and below the sea. Equipped with Tomahawk cruise missiles, Harpoon anti-ship missiles and Sea Sparrow Missiles, USS Kinkaid is capable of hitting enemy targets hundreds of miles away. In addition, the ship carries two helicopters with sonar and torpedo capabilities, expanding the ship's reach. Dardar is a 1989 graduate of South Lafourche High School. He is the son of Summersgill J. Dardar of Golden Meadow. TIMOTHY CHAUVIN Timothy J. Chauvin enlisted recently in the United States Air Force. Upon successfully completing theAir Force's six-week basic training course at Lackland Air Force Base, near San Antonio, Texas, he will receive technical training in his designated career area. Chauvin is a graduate of Ellender Memorial High School. While attending basic and technical training schools he will earn credits toward an associate degree in applied sciences through the Community College of the Air Force. CINNAMON CALLOWAY Cinnamon Calloway recently enlisted in the United States Air Force. Upon succ essful completion of the Air Force's six-week basic training course at Lackland Air Force Base, near San Antonio, Texas, Calloway will receive technical training in her designated career area. Calloway, a graduate of Ellender Memorial High School, will earn credits toward an associate degree in applied sciences through the Community College of the Air Force while attending basic and technical training schools. JIMMY MCGINTEY Navy Chief Petty Officer Jimmy C. McGintey is currently conducting counter-drug patrols in the Caribbean Sea aboard the guided-missile cruiser USS Thomas S. Gates, home ported in Pascagoula, Miss. Since departing their home port in June, McGintey and fellow crew members have boarded suspect vessels as part of their mission to stop the flow of illegal drugs into the U nited States. In addition, MeGintey's ship made a port visit to Colon, Panama. McGintey's ship is one of the most powerful warships ever put to sea. The computer-based AEGIS weapons system is the heart of the ship's War-fighting capability. It centers around a powerful radar that enable the crew to detect, track and fire on more than 100 targets at a time. McGintey joined the Navy in August 1980. He is a 1980 graduate of H.L. Marty Orgeron has graduated from the Air Force Noncommissioned Officer Academy at Kapaun Air Station, Kaiserslautern, Germany. The graduate received instruction in advanced military leadership and management theories and responsibilities; physical fitness and conditioning; oral and written communications skills; supervisory roles relative to the Air Force mission and organization; human behavior concepts and problem solving, including counseling techniques and orienting new personnel in the principles, practices and tools necessary to operate in the Air Force. Orgeron is a helicopter crew chief assigned to the 352nd Maintenance Squadron at RAF Mildenhall, Cambridge, England. The sergeant is the son of Ernest J and and Sylvia A Orgeron of Lockport. He is a 1985 graduate of Central Lafourche High School. MARCIE PICOU Amy Pvt. Marcie S. Picou has graduated from basic military training at Fort Leonard Wood, Waynesville, Mo. During the training, the trainee received instruction in drill and ceremonies, weapons, map reading, tactics, military courtesy, military justice, physical fitness, first aid, and Army history and traditions. Picou is the daughter of Alex A and Tlieresa M. Picou of Raceland. She is a 1999 gra duate of Central LaFourche High School. JEFFREY PREVOST Navy Seaman Jeffrey J. Prevost recently returned form a six-month deployment while assigned to Fighter Squadron 14, embarked aboard the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt. During the deployment, the squadron helped conduct NATO bombing and airstrike missions against military and strategic installations in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Operation Allied Force, the largest NATO air attack in Europe, was launched after Yugoslavian President Slobodan Milosevic refused diplomatic efforts to end his military offenses and accept peace terms with the ethnic Albanian majority in the Kosovar province. The squadron also participated in Operation Southern Watch in the Arabian Gulf, enforcing U.N. resolutions levied against Iraq after the 1991Gulf War, patrolling the no-fly zone over southern Iraq and prohibiting the flow of contraband to and from Iraq. Prevost also visited cities in France and Spain. Home-based at Naval Air Station Oceana, Va., Prevost's squadron, flies the Navy's F-14 Tomcat. Prevost is a 1998 graduate of Bourgeois High School and joined the Navy in June 1998. He is the son of Robert A and Carole Prevost of Gray. PATRICK LINER Coast Guard Seaman Apprentice Patrick J. The ship participated in Operation Southern Watch in the Arabian Gulf, enforcing the U.N. resolution levied against Iraq after the 1991 Gulf War, patrolling the no-fly zone over southem Iraq and prohibiting the flow of contraband to and from Iraq. USS Arctic's main mission is to support the fleet through underway replenishment. Marcel, a 1995 graduate of Terrebonne High School, joined the Navy in June 1995. RODNEY FULCHER Coast Guard Chief Petty Officer Rodney H. Fulcher recently received a Letter of Commendation while assigned with Marine Safety Office, Charleston, S.C. Fulcher was recognized for his superior performance of duty. D isplaying remarkable dedication and initiative, Fulcher consistently performed his demanding duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner. Fulcher joined the Coast Guard in September 1981. His wife, Adele, is the daughter of John R. and Germaine G. Theriot of Houma. JERRY LEBOUEF Marine PFC Jerry J. LeBouef recently reported for duty with 3rd Support Battalion, 3rd Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan.
