Upon her graduation from St. John in 1944, Sister Rita Ruth entered the Marianites of the Holy Cross and began her teaching career at St. Francis de Sales School. She pronounced her first vows in 1946, and taught at the Academy of the Immaculate Conception in Opelousas, Saints Peter and Paul, St. Christopher's in New Orleans, and St. John's in Plaquemines. After his vocal cords were removed in 1968, Mr. Thibodaux was taught by speech therapists at Nicholls to speak by swallowing air and belching it up.
