The date preceding the obituary is the date of the newspaper, not the date of death. ============================================================================ Houma Courier, Aug. 21, 1983 Submitted by: Cynthia Fatchett Daigle JUNIUS JOSEPH AUTHEMENT RESTURANT FOUNDER DIES Junius "June" Joseph Authement, 76, a native of Montegut and resident of Houma; died at 9:30 AM Saturday. Mr. Authement was the founder and owner of the Sea Breeze Restaurant in Houma from 1929 until 1963 and the Sea Breeze Hotel from 1938 until 1967. A pioneer Houma businessman, Authement was responsible for renting the first oil crew boats, placing the first glass storage-front windows in his buildings on Main Street and bringing the first chain stores to Houma by renting his stores to other businesses. He was an active member of St. Francis de Sales Church at its inception and served on the building committee for the St. Francis Sister's Home. Later, he became an active member of St. Gregory Catholic Church. Authement was a member of the Terrebonne Sportsman League and the Krews of Terreanean and Christopher. Funeral services at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church and burial in St. Francis Cem. #1 Survived by his wife, Louise Hebert Authement; three sons, Norman, Douglas and John Authement; one daughter, Mrs Daniel (Barbara) Bennett of Miami, Fla; three brothers, Louis, Alvin and Andrew Authement; one sister, Hazel Bergeron. Daigle VALERIE CARLOS Valerie Babin Carlos, 79, A native and resident of Chauvin, died at 5:05 pm Saturday. Visitation will be from 9 am today until service time at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Chauvin. Funeral services will be at 10 am Monday at St. Joseph Catholic church and cemetery. She is survived by three sons, Albon Carlos, Ferrel Carlos and Harvey Pitre, all of Chauvin; four daughters, Mrs. Ruffin (Merdeline) LeBlanc, Mrs. Jean (Mavis) Charpentier, Mrs, Noles (Geraldine) Duet and Mrs. Reggie (Gail) Authement. Sr., all of Chauvin; 24 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband, Bartholomew Carlos; her first husband Howard J. Pitre; her parents, Eva Guidry and John Frances Babin; four sisters, Mrs Bernice Smith, Mrs Effie LeBlanc, Mrs. Ernestine Stringer and Mrs. Angel Pellegrin; one brother, Essie Babin; two grandchildren; and one great grandchild. Daigle OSCAR BROCK Oscar Lee Brock, 79, a native of St. Maurice and resident of Chauvin, died at 8 pm Sunday. He was a retired superintendent of Sun Oil Company. Visitation will be held from 6 to 11:30 pm today and from 8 am until funeral time Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 10 am Tuesday from the Chauvin Funeral Home chapel. Burial will follow at Garden of Memory Cemetery in Gray. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Flaharty Brock; one daughter, Mrs Armin (Judy) Fiedler; one brother Ed Markham of Gladwater, Tex.; two sisters, Emma McKay of Oxford and Gertie Weaver of Baton Rouge and two grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Jackson and Alice Nolan Brock; three brothers, Robert, J.C. and Ellis Brock and one sister Clara Brock. Daigle Prominent businessman dies ROBERT PRENTICE Robert Bancroff Prentice, 77, a pioneer in the oil and gas industry here, died at 6 am Sunday. Prentice, a native of Welsh and resident of Houma, was founder of R.B. Prentice Drilling Company and R.B. Prentice Oil and Gas Company. He served on the State Mineral Board. A farmer and cattle breeder, Prentice used innovative techniques on his local plantation. He was also an avid fisherman and sportsman. Funeral services were scheduled for 11:30 am today from the Chauvin Funeral Home chapel. Burial was to follow at St Francis No. 2 Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Dotty Duncan Prentice; one son, Robert Bancroff Prentice ll of Schriever and one daughter, Mrs Wesley (Cynthia) Palmer of Nassau Bay, Tex., and five grandchildren.
