Dr. Philip Louis Cenac, a pioneer in the medical community in Houma and Terrebonne Parish, died at 8:08 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 24, 1990) at Terrebonne General Medical Center following a brief illness. Cenac was one of a group of nine doctors who opened the doors of Terrebonne General Medical Center in 1954 when it was known as Terrebonne General Hospital. Among his many credits, Cenac was the first board certified surgeon to actively practice in Terrebonne Parish. He is also credited with helping develop the medical community in the parish. Cenac was an honor graduate of Terrebonne High School, Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. During World War II, he was a first lieutenant in the U.S. Navy, serving on the USS Caney. During 38 years of practicing medicine in Terrebonne Parish, Cenac’s list of accomplishments includes chief of staff at Terrebonne General Hospital, past president of the Terrebonne Parish Medical Society, the Louisiana Chapter of the American college of Surgeoins and the Rivers Surgical Society of the LSU Medical Center. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at Community Funeral Home. Wake and funeral services will be held at 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Dismissal services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home with interment following in Blue Lilly Cemetery in Johnson Ridge. He is survived by four sons, James C. Hill, Dwayne Dixon, Brandon Dock and Joseph Dock Jr.; and four daughters, JoAnn Boudreaux, Cantrelle Fletcher, Melissa Dock and Deborah Dock. He was preceded in death by his parents Mr. and Mrs. William Dock Jr. Community Funeral Home is handling arrangements. ============================
