Funeral services will be Thursday. Richaud, 85 years old, was a native of Morgan City. He served as president of the Houma-Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce from 1953 to 1954, was a member of the chamber's board of directors and was named this year as an honorary chamber board member. At the time of his death, Richaud was serving as chairman of the state Finance Committee for the American Legion, a position he held for the past 37 years. Richaud was a member of American Legion Lenox Hotard Post No. 31, was active in Elks Lodge No. 1193 and was a member of the Terrebonne Association for Retarded Citizens. He was active in the Krewe of Houmas Carnival Club, having served as captain for several years and king one year. For many years he was a director of Terrebonne Bank and Trust and at one time served as chairman of the bank's board of directors. Richaud was honored for his untiring contributions to the Terrebonne Parish community by being named the Houma Daily Courier's Most Useful Citizen in 1947. He was the second person to receive the honor, which is still being awarded today. Richaud was a graduate of Jefferson College in Convent and earned a bachelor's degree from Loyola University in New Orleans. Owner and president of Richaud Motors from 1950 to 1976, Richaud was a long time member of the Louisiana Automobile Dealers' Association and served in various elected offices within that organization, including president, vict president and secretary/treasurer. He also was active in the National Chrysler-Plymouth Dealers Council. During the early months of World War II, Richaud served in the Civil Air Patrol, flying over the Gulf of Mexico, and served in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946. He achieved the rank of Major and received the World War II Victory Medal and the American Theater Service medal. He is survived by a sister, Eugene Anna Richaud of Houma.
