Daigle DUPRE, ELFRAY HOUMA RESTAURANTEUR ELFRAY JOSEPH DUPRE DIES Houma restauranteur Elfray Joseph Dupre, a former president of the Louisiana Restaurant Association, died Thur., Dec. 16, 1993, following a battle with cancer. He was 52. Dupre owned and operated Alma's Restaurant on Barrow Street for 17 years. He and his wife, Merle Lirette Dupre, opened the restaurant in 1972 and it closed in 1989. Dupre was a graduate of the Louisiana State School for the Blind. He had only about 20 percent vision and was legally blind. Despite this, Dupre made a success of the restaurant and owned a seafood wholesale business. He served on the Louisiana Restaruant Association's board of directors for 12 years. The association elected Dupre president in 1980. In 1983, the Louisiana Restaurant Association inducted Dupre into its Hall of Fame, an award presented each year to recognize an individual who has given long, faithful, dedicated and outstanding service to the association. Dupre was a native of Terrebonne Parish and a resident of Houma. Services at Chauvin Funeral Home Chapel; burial in St. Francis Cem. #1.
