Burial was in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Metairie. He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Edelweiss "Edee" Kasiske Hempel of Fernwood; one son John A Hempel and wife Theresa of Mobile, Ala; two daughters. Mrs. Gary (Kathy) Johnson of Conroe, Texas, and Nancy Breaux of Lafayette; three sisters, Elner Tate and Lorene Moore, both of Giddings. Texas, and Olivia Peterson of Austin. Texas; five grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Allen Hempel; and one grandson, Scott A Hempel.
