A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 9:45 a.m. Saturday at Christ the Re deemer Church in Thibodaux for Dr. William H. Adams III, 73, a native of Alexandria and resident of Thibodaux. Adams is the retired head of history department at Nicholls State University. He came to Nicholls as an associate professor of social sciences in 1963 and was made department head in 1964. Between then and the time of his retirement in 1991, the department was renamed the department of history. He also taught at Louisiana State University ;in Baton Rouge, Northwestern and Southwestern universities. Adams presided over the Louisiana Historical Association for a time and was widely published on the subject of antebellum Louisiana." Michael Delaune, director of University Relations at Nicholls said his colleagues also said he was particularly known as an expert on Whigs political party." Dr. J. Paul Leslie Jr., a colleague of Adams and a current professor of history at Nicholls said Adams was viewed as a demanding but fair teacher.
