M. Dean Stephens, Metropolitan and Archbishop of the Original Province of Anglican Catholic Church since October 1997, died Sunday, March 29, 1998, following a heart attack at his home in Metairie. He was 58. A requiem Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Christ Church, 4316 North Woodlawn Ave. in Metairie. Arcbishop Stephens was born Jan. 16, 1940, in Crawfordsville, Ind., and he was a 1963 graduate of Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C. He was received into the Anglican Catholic Church in January 1982 and was conditionally ordained deacon and priest by the Rt. Rev. Louis W. Falk, then Bishop of the Missouri Valley. He was sent to St. David's Church, Sioux Falls, S.D., where he was rector until 1985. In that year he was chosen by the college of Bishops to be the First Bishop of the newly formed Missionary Diocese of New Orleans. The following year he was consecrated to the episcopate by Archbishop Falk and the Rt. Rev. Bishops James O. Mote, William J. rutherford and Thomas J. Kleppinger. Bishop Stephen' episcopate in the Diocese of New Orleans was marked by considerable growth and in 1990 the diocese was administratively combined with the Missionary Diocese of the Holy Sprit based in Texas. In 1991 the united diocese was raised to full diocesan status. Archbishop Stephens was elected and enthroned Oct. 19, 1997, in Norfolk, Va., as the third Metropolitan ot the Original Province of the Anglican Catholic Church, succeeding the most Rev. William O. Lewis, who died Sept. 23, 1997. As chairman of the provincial Department of evangelism, Archbishop Stephens oversaw the Anglican Catholic Church's first Congress on Evangelism in Denver, Colo. The Rt. Rev. John T. Cahoon Jr., Bishop of the Mid-Atlantic States and Senior Ordinary in the province, is now the Acting Metropolitan and will serve until the XIII Provincial Syunod scheduled for the fall, 1999. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rovert Claude Buquet; her parents, James Edward Williams and Philemena Leona Pellegrin; one brother, Jessie Leon Williams; and four stepsisters, Hattie Russell, Edna Farmer, May Williams and Dora Voss. She was a retired employee of the Louisiana State Welfare Department and worked at the MacDonell French Mission School (now MacDonell Center) in Houma and the Indian Mission School in Dulac. She was a deaconess for many years with the Methodist Church. She established a kindergarten and community center in an underprivileged section of Nashville, Tenn., which was named in her honor. She was involved with Girl Scouts of America. Bouquet was married to her husband for 54 years.
