He graduated from DeRidder High School in 1933 and attended what is now Northwestern State University in Natchitoches. After high school, he worked with his father on the farm for one year in which he earned $15 which he split with his father. He then worked at C.C. Camp which is now Fort Polk. He owned and operated a small sandwich shop called the Varsity Shop across from Northwestern. He met his bride-to-be, June Yarbrough from Leesvil le, at Northwestern and they were married on June 24, 1940. Morris returned to DeRidder in 194 2 and bought the Royal Caf\'e9 on First Street from his uncle, C.E. Barbier, and operated the caf\'e9 with his eldest brother, Euclid. Also during this time Morris and his brothers went into the marsh buggy and quarter boat business in south Louisiana. His next older brother and his youngest sister and their families still reside in Houma. In 1961, Morris and his wife established Morris Tire Service with successful businesses in DeRidder and Leesville. He served two terms (1976 to 1984) as State Representative from District 31 in the Louisiana Legislature. One of his many accomplishments was the sponsorship of DWI legislation which resulted in stiffer penalties for drunken drivers. He received numerous awards during his tenure in recognition of his caring and concerned leadership. Morris was a member of First Baptist Church in DeRidder for most of his life and was active in virtually every aspect of church stewardship, including service as a Deacon for over 50 years and as a Sunday School teacher for many years. He was past chairman of the Deacon' s group. He was instrumental in the establishment of the Beauregard Memorial Hospital, served on the hospital board for over 25 years and was past president of that board. He personally influenced the decisions of many doctors to practice in DeRidder. Morris served on the board of directors of City Savings Bank and Trust Company for many years and assisted in the relocation of the main office as well as the establishment of several branch offices. He was recently awarded the honor of director-emeritus of the bank. He was an avid supporter and sponsor of the Boy Scouts of American and served for many years on the executive board of the Thunderbird district, Calcasieu Area Council. His efforts in scouting resulted in his receipt of the coveted Silver Beaver Award in 1981. Morris was co-owner, president and manager of East Village Shopping Center, a member of the DeRidder Lions Club, a member of the DeRidder Civitans, a member of F &AM Masonic Lodge No. 271 and a member of the Louisiana Forestry Commission. He was a past president and board member of the DeRidder-Beauregard Chamber of Commerce and a founding member of the DeRidder Country Club. He was a former king of the annual Mardi Gras celebration sponsored by the Young Women' s League of DeRidder and was honored by the Louisiana Moral & Civic Foundation with the G.O.
