Monsignor Landry attended St. Joseph Seminary College in St. Benedict and received his degrees in philosophy and theology from Notre Dame Se minary in New Orleans. He was ordained in 1943 for the Archdiocese of New Orleans and spent his first five years as a priest serving St. Cecilia and Mater Dolorosa parishes in New Orleans as associate pastor. He then spent two years as associate at Sacred Heart of Jesus parish in Baton Rouge. In 1950 he became associate pastor at St. Eloi parish in Theriot, followed by St. Rose de Lima in New Orleans where he was associate pastor for five years. He assumed his first pastorate at St. Patrick parish in Gibson where he served for eight years. He was founding pastor of St. Robert Bellarmine in Arabi in 1964, and then returned to the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux where he served Sacred Heart Church in Montegut as pastor from 1976 to his retirement in 1986. He also served as Dean of the Terrebonne deanery, a member of the Priests? Council and as Diocesan Consultor. Pope John Paul II named him a Prelate of Honor with the title of Monsignor in 1991. Among his other assignments within the Archdiocese of New Orleans and the Diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, Monsignor Whitney served as a member of the Fund Development Committee, a member of the Clergy Council, a member of the Ministry to Priests and a member of the Personnel Committee. He was also a chaplain for the National Guard from 1951 to 1959; the spiritual director for the Legion of Mary, Downtown Curia; a chaplain for the Catholic Daughters of America Court Massabielle No. 1134, Morgan City; a Faithful Friar for the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Monsignor J.J.
