Houma, died at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004.

Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. today at Falgout Funeral Home and 
from 8 a.m. to funeral time Monday at St. Bernadette Catholic Church. 
Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with burial in St. 
Anthony cemetery in Bayou Black.

She is survived by her husband, Hayes Joseph Portier Sr.; two sons, 
Hayes Portier Jr. and wife, Kitty, and Troylee Portier and wife, 
Caroline, all of Houma; three brothers, Ernest, David and Henry Breaux, 
all of Houma; four sisters, Norma Duplantis, Rose Pinell, Mary Lee 
Rhodes and Gail Dardar, all of Houma; one aunt, Mae Cenac; four 
grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Adrina Klingman and Charles 
Breaux; one daughter, Mary Ann Portier; three brothers, Jules, Charles 
and Phillip Breaux; and one sister, Adrina Leonard.

She was a parishioner of St. Bernadette Catholic Church.

Nell Rita Bergeron Matherne, 77, a native of Bayou Blue and resident of 
Houma, died at 10:30 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, 2004.

Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home and 
from 9 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at St. Louis Catholic Church. Mass 
will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial in the church 
cemetery.

She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Whitney Matherne of Houma; 
one son, Maurice J. Matherne of Harvey; two daughters, Suzanne Folse of 
Houma and Charmaine Matherne of Dulac; one brother, Samuel P. Bergeron 
of Bayou Blue; four sisters, Grace B. Porche and husband, Alphonse, of 
Bayou Blue, Jeanette A. Bergeron, Estelle B. Bird of Houma and Elda B. 
Countess of Huntsville, Ala.; one grandchild; Vonn Anthony Folse of New 
Orleans; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Eddie W. and Laurentine 
Marcel Bergeron; and three brothers, Lucius G. Bergeron, Roy L. 
Bergeron and Rene Bergeron.

She was a homemaker and a member of National Day Lillies Society, an 
active member of the Bayou Blue Senior Citizens Club. She also enjoyed 
her day lilly and rose garden and was an avid reader.

She was a parishioner of St. Louis Catholic Church.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Ronald 
MacDonald Home.
Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Good Conduct Medal Third Award and a Purple Heart.

great-grandchildren; and 67 great-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna DeHart LaCoste; his parents, 
Emanuel LaCoste and Melanie Lovell LaCoste; one daughter, Ouida 
Lirette; one grandson, Charles "Buddy" Lirette; one infant 
granddaughter; two great-grandchildren, Aron Chauvin and Nathaniel

He was a retired commercial fisherman and a member of St. Andrew's
