Brunet, 58, a native of Pointe-aux-Chenes and resident of Lafayette for the past 28 years, died at 6:13 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, 2004, at his residence in Lafayette. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at Melancon Funeral Home in Carencro. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Elizabeth Seton Roman Catholic Church, with burial in St. Peter Catholic Cemetery in Carencro. He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Susie Guilbeau Brunet of Lafayette; one daughter, Amy Brunet of Lafayette; one son, Paul Brunet and wife, Candy, of Lafayette; two grandchildren, Isaac Paul Brunet and Elijah "Eli" Cole Brunet; one brother, Allen Brunet and wife, Suzanne, of Moss Bluff; and two sisters, Mary Jane B. Dupre and husband, Eura, of Pointe-aux-Chenes and Mamie B. Lyons and husband, Paola Jr., of Bourg. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elie Brunet and Walterine Dupre Brunet; and one brother, Gary Brunet. He graduated from South Terrebonne High School in 1963. A veteran of the military, he served in the U.S. Marines. He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for wounds he received while serving in Vietnam. After being honorably discharged from the United States Marine Corp., he was employed by the Louisiana State Police in Houma from 1967 to 1976. In 1976 he joined his father-in-law in the lumber yard and construction business in Lafayette. Doug Brunet and Associates Inc. was formed in 1993 to perform home inspections and real-estate appraisals. In 1999 he was appointed by Gov. Mike Foster to serve on the newly formed seven member State Board of Home Inspectors representing the Seventh Congressional District. He also served on the board of directors for the American Society of Home Inspectors and was voted as the 2003 ASHI Inspector of the Year. Doug was a member of the American Legion, Optimist Club and Board of Directors for the Krewe of Triton. He was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church and served as Eucharistic minister and a church building committee member. Melancon Funeral Home in Carencro is in charge of arrangements.
