The date preceding the obituary is the date of posting on the WWW, not the date of death. ============================= 28August 24. 2004 12:29PM Leona English [Photo] Leona "Leonore" Duplantis English, 90, a native of Little Caillou and resident of Houma, died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 22, 2004, after a lengthy illness. Visitation will be from 5 to 10 p.m. today at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. She is survived by three sons, John Winston English and James "Woody" English, both of Houma, and David Alan Dickinson and wife, Gina, of Houston; one brother, Dallas Joseph Duplantis and wife, Gladys, of Owensbrough, Ky.; two sisters, Lura Marie Malbrough Gardner and Maria Ann Pontiff and husband, Paul Pontiff, of Houma; two sisters-in-law, Robbie Duplantis and Mary Lou Duplantis; five grandsons, John Winston English Jr. and wife, Julie, of Lockport, Brent Charles English and wife, Mary, of Houma, Brandon John English and Garrett Edward English of Raceland and Joshua Dickinson of Houston; and four great- grandchildren, Hannah, Malia, Benjamin and Emma English. She was preceded in death by her husband, John William English Jr.; her parents, Calvin Jean Baptist Duplantis and Clothilde Therse LeBlanc Duplantis; one daughter, Mary Rose Caroline English; two brothers, Floyd Jean Duplantis and Perry John Duplantis; and one sister, Anna Lee Rosalie Duplantis Hebert. She was a retired schoolteacher with Terrebonne Parish School Board and was a homemaker. She was an active member in the community and state level in organizing different committees. She was a member of the Catholic Daughter of America Court Cardinal Gibbons No. 177 for 55 years, a member of the 8/40 Salon where she served as the Chapeor National and member for 46 years. She was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary No. 3700, Bergeron Post and Lenox-Hotard and American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 31. She was a parishioner of St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, American Legion Child Welfare Program, 121 Fane St., Houma, LA 70364 or your favorite charity.
