The date preceding the obituary is the date of posting on the WWW, not the date of death. ============================= September 20. 2004 12:52PM also 21 Sep 2004 George Hummel Sr. [Photo] George Anthony Hummel Sr., 86, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., and resident of Pointe-aux-Chenes, died at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 19, 2004. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Tuesday at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Amanda Ellender Hummel of Pointe-aux-Chenes; four sons, George A. Hummel Jr. and wife, Shirlene, of Houma, Paul Anthony Hummel and wife, Illiana, of New York, Thomas A. Hummel and wife, Susan, of Mississippi, and Timothy A. Hummel and wife, Sheri, of Delaware; one daughter, Diane H. Taub and husband, Leon, of Houma; 13 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony Peter Hummel and Augusta Oechsner Hummel; one son, Gerald Hummel; and one sister, Doris Hummel. He was a retired businessman who owned a furniture store in Queens, N.Y. He was a member of the Lions Club, a Eucharist Minister, a Lector and a religion teacher in his parish. He served in World War II as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army Medical Corp. In lieu of flowers, Masses are preferred.
