Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Church in Thibodaux. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Byrne Ellender Legendre; two sons, Irving "Ed" III of Bradenton, Fla., and Will of New Iberia; three daughters, Mary Byrne Bordelon of Houma, Adeline Bernard of Thibodaux and Katie Hebert of Houma; two brothers, Ben and Gus Legendre, both of Thibodaux; and three sisters, Irene Legendre of Thibodaux, Pat O'Grady of St. Louis, Mo., and Ellie Toups of Thibodaux. He was preceded in death by his parents, Irving E. Legendre Sr. and Eloise Smith Legendre; and one daughter, Julie Irene Legendre. He was past president and general manager of Lafourche Sugars Corporation and served on the Lafourche Parish Police Jury. He was past president of the American Society of Sugar Cane Technologists, past president of American Sugar Cane League, past member of the Board of Directors of Argent Bank and was affiliated with many civic and community organizations and charities.
