Visitation will be from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. today at Schoen and Son Funeral Home in New Orleans and from 10 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at St. Dominic Catholic Church in New Orleans. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the church, with burial in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Edgard. He is survived by his wife, Armella Barre Bergeron; one son, Melvin Joseph Bergeron; five daughters, Jeannine Bergeron Thibodaux of Houma, Dr. Annette Bergeron Oertling, Michelle Bergeron Abry, Yvette Bergeron McGuinness of Atlanta and Dr. Nicole Bergeron Karcher; three brothers, Charles Bergeron of Baton Rouge, Lannie Bergeron of Opelousas and Lyle Bergeron of Alexandria; two sisters, Elise Bergeron Nain Olsen of Slidell and Deretta Bergeron Manuel of Orange, Texas; and 12 grandchildren, Adele Marie Thibodaux, Rene Pierre Thibodaux, Jean Paul Thibodaux, Matthew Daniel Oertling, Sarah Elizabeth Oertling, Monique Elizabeth Abry, Thomas Herman Abry, Patrick Hugh Abry, Megan Claire McGuinness, Sean Matthew McGuinnes, Claire Nicole Karcher and Jacques Christian Karcher. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elise Bienvenue Bergeron and Hervin J. Bergeron; and one brother, Hervin J. Bergeron Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to St. Vincent de Paul Society, are preferred. Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
