Foret, 83, a native of Raceland and resident of Thibodaux, died at 12:49 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2004. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at St. Joseph Co- Cathedral in Thibodaux. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Amelia Gaudet Foret; one son, Michael J. Foret and wife, Mona; two daughters, Dr. Claire M. Foret and Faye F. Thompson and husband, John; one brother, Martin Foret; two sisters, Una F. Foret and Idola F. Dufour; and five grandchildren, Niki, Megan and Alexis Foret, Kimberly Thompson Byrd and John Thompson Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene F. Foret and Eleanore Brown Foret; two brothers, Tilman and David Foret; and two sisters, Rita F. Champagne and Lydia F. Sciambra. He was a lieutenant colonel and veteran in the U.S. Air Force and retired after 28 years of service. He served in World War II as a B-17 pilot in the 8th Air Force, 490th Bomb Group. He was an aeronautical engineer, aircraft maintenance officer, atlas missile commander and after his retirement was a V.A. officer for Lafourche Parish. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Woodmen of the World, American Legion Post No. 11, 40 and 8th Post, V.F.W., Krewe of Cleophas, 8th Air Force Historian Society, 490th Bomb Group, 556 Missile Squad, Reserve Officer Association and a parishioner of St. Joseph Co-Cathedral. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother and will be dearly missed. Landry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
