Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at Kennedy Funeral Home in Raceland and from noon to funeral time Saturday at St. Matthews Baptist Church in Houma. Religious service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church, with burial in St. Luke Cemetery. She is survived by seven daughters, Gustavia S. Richardson, Hattie S. Coleman, Vera S. Hodges, Amy Smith, Patricia Smith and Sandra Smith, all of Raceland, and Geraldine S. Jones of New Orleans; seven sons, Robert, Evan Jr., Earl, Leonard, Herman, Jerry Lee and Sylvester Smith, all of Raceland; two sisters, Rosemary Thibodaux of Houma and Hattie Smith Celestine of Raceland; 46 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Evan Smith Sr.; her parents, Robert and Mary Jane Thomas Celestine; one daughter, Dorothy Mae Smith; three brothers, Herman Celestine, the Rev. Leonard Celestine and Hillary Celestine; and two sisters, Viola Moore and Elvira Thibodaux. She was a member of the Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church and served on the Deaconess Board.
