The date preceding the obituary is the date of posting on the WWW, not the date of death. ============================= December 19. 2004 12:32AM Ivy Smith Sr. [Photo] Ivy "Smitty" Joseph Smith Sr., 87, a native of Southdown Plantation and resident of Donner-Chacahoula, died at 8:42 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18, 2004. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Monday at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. Mass will be at noon Monday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Violet Lirette Smith of Houma; three sons, Ivy Smith Jr. of Baton Rouge, Danny Smith and wife, Elaine, and James "Jimmy" Smith and wife, Caren, of Houma; one daughter, Therese Oubre and husband, Howard "Buck" Oubre, of Houma; eight grandchildren, Ronnie Smith and wife, Shirley, Tanner Magee and wife, Kristen, Courtnee, Dylan and Devin Smith, all of Houma, Tina Smith Straeter of Florida, Howard "Buck" Oubre Jr. and wife, Beth, of Lafayette, and Alisa Oubre Ransome and husband, Dustin, of Baton Rouge; and six great- grandchildren, Jackie, Amber and Zachary Smith, Collin and Madison Straeter and Christin Ransome. He was preceded in death by his parents, Xavier Smith and Priscilla Bergeron Smith; one brother, Ira Smith; and one sister, Vernice Bagwell. He was a retired advertising director for The Houma Courier and a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th degree and a past member of the Usher Society at the church. Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
