Visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Gertrude Geddes Willis Funeral Home Chapel in Houma and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church in Gibson. A wake will be at 8 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Dismissal services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with burial in the church cemetery. She is survived by one son, John Matthews of Raytown, Mo.; three daughters, Jerrymae M. Haynes of New Orleans, Delores Deamer of Kansas City, Md., and Elmira Matthews of Gibson; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Matthews; her parents, Willie and Amy Bolden Dangerfield; one son, Walter Matthews Jr.; one daughter, Betty Jean Matthews; three brothers, the Rev. Rueben Dangerfield, Albert Dangerfield and Teddy Dangerfield; and three sisters, Alberta Mickens, Elmira Thomas and Nancy Dangerfield. She was a homemaker and member of Mt. Pilgrim Baptist Church. She was a member of the Steward Board, president of Willing Workers, a Sunday School teacher and involved with Home Mission. Her hobbies included cooking and reading. Gertrude Geddes Willis Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
