Ernest J. Matthews Sr., 56, a native of Marrero and resident of Napoleonville, 
died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at St. Paul Baptist 
Church in Napoleonville. Religious service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the 
church, with burial in the church cemetery.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Clay Matthews of Napoleonville; his mother, 
Hester Moton of New Orleans; four sons, Ashley and Warren Verrett of Thibodaux, 
Stanley Verrett of Napoleonville and Ernest Matthews Jr. of New Orleans; six 
sisters, Antoinet Singleton of New Orleans, Linda Duncan, Joyce Coleman, Lela 
Rose Arcement, Delores Johnson and Zenoba Cox, all of Thibodaux; four brothers, 
Daniel Green, Ronnie Martin and Joseph Martin of New Orleans and Alvin Arcement 
of Thibodaux; and 15 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father, Albert Matthews.

He attended St. Paul Baptist Church.
