Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to funeral time Tuesday at Chauvin Funeral Home. A religious service will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home chapel, with burial in Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro, Ky. He is survived by his wife, Theresa Miller Mitchell of Houma; two sons, Robert E. Miles of Owensboro and James Mitchell Sr. of Houma; one daughter, Shannon Mehaffey of Florence, S.C.; one sister, Neva McConathy of Houston; and four grandchildren, Brandy Miles, Scott A. Lang, James Mitchell Jr. and Jordan Mitchell. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Deurell Mitchell and Elsie Bell Mitchell; and one brother, James G. Mitchell. He was a retired pilot for Petroleum Helicopters Inc. of 23 years. He was a retired chief warrant officer of the U.S. Army, who served three tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. He was a member of V.F.W. Post No. 7755 in Bourg. He was a member of the Church of Nazarene. Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
