Visitation will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at Jacob Schoen and Son Funeral Home in New Orleans. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home chapel, with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. He is survived by his wife, Helen Kent Authement; two sons, Brad and Randy Authement; two daughters, Bonnie Woodson and Cathy Thurman; two sons-in-law, Jimmie Woodson and Richard Thurman Jr.; two daughters-in-law, Kim Authement and Kathy G. Authement; two brothers, Ronald and Eugene Authement; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Esther Fanguy McElveen and Smiley Eugene McElveen; and two brothers, Bruce Authement and Harold McElveen. He was the oldest active glassman and was owner of Authement's Glass for more than 40 years. He was a past member of the Knights of Columbus, past coach of little league football for Digby Park and a member of numerous clubs and organizations.
