The date preceding the obituary is the date of posting on the WWW, not the date of death. ============================= May 02. 2005 12:23PM Benoit Tregre Benoit "Ben" Joseph Tregre, 82, a lifelong resident of Vacherie, died Sunday, May 1, 2005, at Thibodaux Regional Hospital. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at Our Lady of the Peace Catholic Church in Vacherie. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church, with interment in the church mausoleum. He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Tex and Katherine Tregre of Cut Off; six daughters and sons-in-law, Cynthia Percle of Chackbay, Donald Martin of Gibson, Delane and Ronald Steib, Ramona and Michael Kliebert, Mickey and Glenn Becnel of Vacherie, Gaynell and Matthew Becnel of Thibodaux and Holly and Thomas Becnel of Chackbay; 17 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Theolaine Ockman Tregre; one daughter, Sylvia T. Martin; his parents, Vinia and Beronie Tregre; three brothers, Guy, Herbert and Edwin; and one sister, Lucy Tregre. He was a World War II veteran serving his country under the directions of General George Patton's Third Army. He received the Purple Heart Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Two Distinguished Service Crosses, World War II Victory Medal, Eameto Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was still active in the V.F.W. Post No. 4245 and Company A Infantry Division of the 778th Tank Battalion. He was a loving husband, devoted father and friend to many. Samart Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
