Visitation will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 8:30 a.m. to funeral time Thursday at First United Methodist Church in Houma. A service of celebration of his life will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the church, conducted by the Rev. Barry Hoekstra, church pastor, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Charlene Weightman Shrigley of Houma; one brother, Richard Shrigley and wife, Janet; one brother-in-law, Robert C. Weightman and companion, Jean Lund; five nieces, Kim Pearl and husband, Bruce, Karen Hartnett and husband, Ed, Rebecca Nagy and husband, Steve, Tracy Parzanese and husband, Vince, and Tara Brinton and husband, Evan; one nephew, Richard R. Shrigley Jr. and wife, Heidi; six great-nieces, Leah Pearl, Christi Smarski, Anne Smarski, Samantha Shrigley, Jacqui Pearl and Sara Shrigley; and seven great-nephews, Stephen Pearl, Michael Pearl, Matthew Shrigley, Ian Nagy, Ryan Nagy, Bo Brinton and Lars Brinton. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edgar and Tressie Gobbie Shrigley. He graduated from Elizabeth High School in Elizabeth, Pa., in 1949 and attended Duquesne University in Pittsburgh on a football scholarship from 1950-51. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy from 1951-55 and served during the Korean War on the U.S.S. Benning-ton. After his discharge, he returned to Duquesne University and earned his bachelor's degree in business administration. He began his career in Commercial Credit from 1960-68. He worked for Westinghouse Credit Corp. in Pittsburgh as a senior internal auditor from 1968-76. He was credit manager for Ampco Pittsburgh Corp., Wyckoff Steel Div. from 1979-81. He accepted the position as general credit manager of Patterson Services Inc. (now RPC Inc.) in Houma from 1982 until his retirement in 1998. He was a member of NACM Louisiana from 1983-98, serving as chairman of the board of directors the final three years. He was instrumental in establishing the Southeast Petroleum Industrial Credit Group and served as group chairman for two years. He was a member of the local Credit Managers Association, Mid-States Group, Petroleum Equipment Supplies Association and past president of LACM. He and his wife have enjoyed their move to Houma and have made many wonderful friends and had fun learning the Cajun way of life. He loved sports, woodworking, gardening, good food and was always ready to tell a good joke. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
