The date preceding the obituary is the date of posting on the WWW, not the date of death. ============================= June 27. 2005 11:28AM Armand Kitto [Photo] Armand Eldon Kitto, 78, a native of New Orleans and resident of Houma, died at 6:18 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2005. Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Tuesday at Chauvin Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Wednesday at Maria Immacolata Catholic Church. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. He is survived by his devoted wife of 47 years, Brenda Butker Kitto; one son, Eric Kitto and wife, Laurel, of Prairieville; two daughters, Kim Lukinovich and husband, David, of Harahan, and Julie Wilkerson and husband, Gifford, of Houston; 13 grandchildren, John, Benjamin and Matthew Kitto, Joseph, Joshua, Mary, Sarah, Paul, Peter and Phillip Lukinovich, Cecilia, Hayden and Kyle Wilkerson; one sister, Shirley Daigle of Baton Rouge; and his brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Richard and Judy Butker of Atlanta. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Kitto and Juliette Hayes Kitto. During World War II he served for two years in the Merchant Marines. He also served for two years in the U.S. Air Force as a first lieutenant in Korea during the Korean War. He was a graduate of Francis T. Nicholls High School of New Orleans. He earned a business degree from Louisiana State University where he played football on an athletic scholarship and played in the 1949 Sugar Bowl. His love of football continued through a 29-year career as a Southeastern Conference Football Official. A highlight of his officiating came when he officiated in the Orange Bowl game of 1975. He retired from Bell South Telephone Company after 27 years having worked in New Orleans, Monroe, Shreveport, Alexandria and Houma. He also retired from Bank One after 16 years of service. He served in many civic and community organizations during his career. He was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers, past president of the Houma Lions Club, past president of the Serra Club and worked many years with the St. Vincent De Paul Society. He was active in and dedicated to his church, serving in many capacities during his lifetime. In 2002 he was a recipient of the Papa Medal, Pro Ecclesia et Pontifice. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Maria Immacolata Church Building Fund, 246 Corporate Drive, Houma, LA 70360; St. Vincent De Paul Society, 107 Point St., Houma, LA 70360; or Bayou Region Hospice, 195 Corporate Drive, Houma, LA 70360.
