Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at Falgout Funeral Home in Raceland. Religious service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home, with burial on Restlawn Cemetery in Avondale. He is survived by his wife, Lupe Sweeney; two sons, James Leslie Sweeney and wife, Peggy, of Simpsonville, S.C., and Burl Thomas Sweeney of Dallas; four daughters, Brenda Kay Hoffman and husband, David, of Clendenin, W.Va., Monica Liza Gonzales and husband, Pitin, of Queens, N.Y., Martha Laura McHenry and husband, Carroll, of Dallas, and June Sweeney Brawley of Des Allemands; one sister, Genevieve Johnson of Clendenin; 10 grandchildren; and eight great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Sweeney Sr. and Cleo June Warbutton Sweeney. He was a U.S. World War II Army medic.
