Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Monday at Morning Star Baptist Church in Raceland. Services will be at 11 a.m. at the church, with burial in the church cemetery. He is survived by three daughters, Anita Poindexter of Raceland, Angela Marts of Larose and Vera Charles of Opelousas; two sons, Darrell Reed of Long Beach, Calif., and Sidney Poindexter Jr. of Raceland; four sisters, Edna Mae Reed, Laura Mae Reed, Mary Odell Jerries and Velma Reed, all of Opelousas; five brothers, Simon Reed Jr. of Baton Rouge, Lawrence Reed of Leonville, Joseph Reed, Paul James Reed and Walter Major of Opelousas; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his companion of 37 years, Ernestine Jones; his parents, Simon Reed Sr. and Lorena Reed; and one sister, Rose Mary Reed. He was a member of Morning Star Baptist Church.
