Visitation will be from 6 to 8:45 p.m. Monday and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at Chauvin Funeral Home. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis de Sales Cathedral, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2. He is survived by one son, John H. LaPeze III of Houma; six daughters, Vickie Allgood and husband, Jimmy, of Social Circle, Ga., Audrey Eisengrein and friend, Lon Fernandez, of West Haven, Conn., Sallie Preston and husband, Monte, of Houma, Jody Heeb and husband, Dick, of League City, Texas, Veronica "Ronnie" Bochat and husband, Jimmy, of Montgomery, Texas, and Missie Curth and husband, Bill, of Houma; one brother, Ernest Lapeze and wife, Josephine, of Plaquemine; one brother-in-law, S.L. Lawhorn of Plaquemine; 31 grandchildren, Jason, Christa, Cher, Terry, Windy, Lee, Leigh, Gavin, Tammy, Victoria, Patti, Heather, Wayne, Harry, Sherri, Heidi, Tracy, Tasha, Bridget, Mike, Brittany, Abraham, Danielle, Jamie, Jennifer, Cory, Cindy, Karl, Brandon, Allison and Will; 21 great-grandchildren, Jesse, Zachary, Bethany, Hannah, Kaitlyn, Mason, Mallory, Bryant, Colton, Trent, Alexis. Nicholas, Jacob, Whitney, Logan, Sarah, Cheyenne, Brecken, Alex, Katherine and Savannah. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joy Vale Conaway LaPeze; his parents, John Lapeze Sr., and Lena Berthelot Lapeze; one daughter, Beckie LaPeze; four grandchildren, James Wesley Allgood III, John H. LaPeze IV, Mark A. Eisengrein and Bethany Vale Chauvin; three sisters, Lena Lawhon, Elda Lapeze and Edna Lapeze. He was a retired dredging superintendent of 25 years with Berry Brothers. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II and fought at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, past commander of Disabled American Veterans and co-founder of United Veterans League, American Legion Post and a lifetime member of Knights of Columbus. He was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Cathedral and St. Anthony Catholic Church. Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
