Visitation will be from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at Dion Hall in Catahoula. Funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dion Hall, with burial in Our Lady of the Lake Cemetery in Catahoula. He is survived by one son, Douglas J. Melancon and wife, Brenda, of Houma; one brother, Clifton Melancon and wife, Shirley, of Lafayette; three grandchildren, Ben Melancon and wife, Denice, of Houma, Pamela Melancon LaForge and husband, Derrick, of Houma, and Jessica Melancon of St. Martinville; and two great- grandchildren, Matthew Derrick LaForge and Morgan Elizabeth Melancon, both of Houma. He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude Comb Melancon; his parents, Henri and Mathilde LeBlanc Melancon; one son, Lercy Melancon; one brother, Steven Melancon; and one sister, Yoland Melancon Curry. He was a U.S. World War II Army veteran and a member of the American Legion Post No. 293 in Catahoula. He was an honorary member of the Catahoula Fire Department and a member of Jenkin's Memorial Baptist Church in St. Martinville.
