The date preceding the obituary is the date of posting on the WWW, not the date of death. ============================= August 03. 2005 12:20PM Richard Barker Jr. [Photo] Richard Hobbs Barker Jr., 92, a native of Lockport and resident of Houma, died at 8:20 p.m. Monday, Aug. 1, 2005. Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to funeral time Thursday at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Mass will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the church, with burial in St. Francis de Sales Cemetery No. 2. He is survived by his wife, Sue Robichaux Barker of Houma; two sons, Richard H. Barker III and Kenneth James Barker; three daughters, Jeannie McKey, Patricia Carey and Mary Sue DeGeneres; two brothers, Donald Barker and Robert Barker; three sisters, Marie Ware, Sallie Licalzi and Mary Francis Schnider; 21 grandchildren; and 45 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard H. Barker Sr. and Marie Blanchard Barker; and one daughter, Dr. Ann Barker. He grew up in the automobile business with his father, became the manager of Terrebonne Motor Co. in 1941 and became the dealer of Terrebonne Motor Co. Inc. in Houma in 1943. He served many positions of leadership in numerous automobile dealer associations including a member of the Ford Dealer Advertising Group, a member of the Ford Dealer Council, a member of the Louisiana Automobile Dealers Association, District 3 Representative of LADA and LADA Regional Dealer of the Year. He was a member of the First National Bank of Houma board of directors from 1964 through 1990 and served as chairman of the board from 1986 through 1990. He was a former member of the Rotary Club, former director of the Houma Terrebonne Chamber of Commerce, a member of the World War II Civil Air Patrol, a member of the Terrebonne Parish World War II Rationing Board and Selective Service Board, original member of the Terrebonne Parish Zoning and Planning Commission, a charter member of the Ellendale Country Club, and a member of the Krewe of Houmas and King of Houmas in 1961. He attended and graduated from Thibodaux College in residence. He enjoyed golfing, boating and flying and was extremely knowledgeable and loved to discuss the history of Lafourche Parish. Although he was never in the oil business, he knew, associated with and worked with the pioneers of the oil industry in Terrebonne and Lafourche parishes. He devoted much of his life to help the priest and religious in south Louisiana and loved to meet and visit with people and begin friendships that literally lasted a lifetime. He was semi-retired and a parishioner of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Chauvin Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
