Roy Jr., 68, a native of Natchez, Miss., and resident of Thibodaux, died Friday, Oct. 14, 2005. Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to funeral time Monday at St. Joseph Life Center in Thibodaux. Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday at the center, with burial in St. Joseph Cemetery. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Loretta Caplis Roy; two sons, Dr. Mark J. Roy III and Joseph Roy; two daughters, Jane Roy Tassin and Maggie Roy Constant; one daughter-in-law, Theresa Roy; two sons-in-law, Chet Constant and Daryl Tassin; and seven grandchildren, Michael and Lauren Diez, Victoria and Francis Roy, Caroline and Philip Constant and Loretta Tassin. He was preceded in death by his parents, Col. Mark J. Roy and Jane Gillespie Roy; and his parents-in-law, Joseph Caplis and Antoinette Serwich Caplis. He was born in Natchez, Miss., and graduated from Springhill College in Mobile, Ala. He served in active and reserve duty for the U.S. Army. He graduated with a doctor of optometry degree from the University of Houston and practiced optometry for 39 years in Thibodaux. He was an active member of St. Joseph Co-Cathedral and a charter member of the Thibodaux Chamber of Commerce. He was twice past president of the Optometry Association of Louisiana and a member of the Lions Club and the Knights of Columbus. He loved spending time with his family, fishing, traveling and outdoor cooking. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to E.D. White Catholic High School, St. Joseph Elementary School or Springhill College. Landry's Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
