Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to funeral time Saturday at Moses Baptist Church in Thibodaux. Religious service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the church, with burial in Young Men's Benevolent Cemetery. He is survived by seven daughters, Eula Dicks of Gray, Lucille Hampton of Thibodaux, Elsie Poindexter, Louise Poindexter, Doris Verrett and Linda Young of Raceland and Bernadine Howard of Des Allemands; four sons, Herman Hampton of Gramercy, Bruce Hampton of New Iberia, Lloyd Hampton and Marvin Hampton of Thibodaux; one brother, Richard Hampton of New Orleans; 35 grandchildren; and 46 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Ellis Hampton; his parents, Mitchell Hampton Sr. and Eliza Sewire Hampton; two sisters, Charlotte Walker and Cecille Cameron; and five brothers, Lee, Claude, Mitchell Jr., Elezian and Richard Hampton. He served as the chairman of the Deacon Board at St. Paul Baptist Church.
