Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Community Funeral Home and from 9 a.m. to funeral time Tuesday at Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church. Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church, with burial in New Rising Sun Cemetery. He is survived by one son, Dennis Joshua Valentine of Norcross, Ga.; one daughter, Lakisha Lewis and husband, Lamarr, of Houma; four brothers, Stanley Aldridge Jr. and wife, Evelyn, of Houma, Mitchell Aldridge Sr. and wife, Gwendolyn, of Houma, Bobby Joe Douglas and wife, Evelina, of Houma, and Wayne Douglas of Houma; four sisters, Judy Thomas, Pamela Diggs and husband, Alton, Amanda Thompson and husband, James, and Donzella Douglas, all of Houma; three grandchildren; and his extended family, Jerri G. Smitko, the honorable Edward J. Gaidry, Maxwell Smitko, Verna Ehret, Jodi Bergeron and Scott "Bootsie" Landry. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mercedes Douglas and Albert Valentine Jr.; his grandparents, Eloi and Amelia Williams Douglas, Albert Valentine Sr. and Peaches Valentine; and his step-grandmother, Mildred Valentine. He was a loyal staff member for 15 years for the law office of Jerri G. Smitko and a member of Greater St. Matthews Baptist Church. He enjoyed fishing and playing pool. Community Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
