"L.J." Bernard (also known as Nuke), 84, a native of Thibodaux and a resident of Houma, died at 12:20 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, 1991. Visitation will be from 4-10 p.m. today and from 8 a.m. to funeral time Monday at Chauvin Funeral Home of Houma. A Mass of Christian burial will be said at 2 p.m. Monday at the funeral home chapel. Burial will be in Magnolia Cemetery in Houma. He is survived by a son, Brice J. Bernard of Houma; a brother, Thomas Bernard of Thibodaux; two sisters, Mrs. Alton (Aline) Daigle and Laura Bernard, both of Thibodaux; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Claribel Caro Bernard; parents, Carville and Alice Mire Bernard; five brothers, Maurice, Rene, Claude, Eddie and Raoul Bernard; five sisters, Mrs. Phillip (Anna) Guillot, Mrs. Thomas (Annette) Mire, Mrs. Joseph (Eugenie) Roger, Mrs. Oscar (Elda) Molaison and Lucy Bernard. He was a parishioner of St. Gergory [sic] Catholic Church and owned Bernard's Bar on Legion Avenue in Houma. The family requests donations be made to Tulane Medical Center in New Orleans or the American Cancer Society.
